    Default strange idle issues

so today i go driving to the local Target to pick up some of those tote thingies.

when i get back on the road again, the first stop i came to, i put the clutch in and the revs never dropped to normal, they hung around 1200. so i think nothing of it. i go down the road some more, and stop and the rpm's hang around 1500 now. so now im like "wtf is going on baby". i keep driving home, fiddling with the gas to see if its maybe hanging up on something, but no avail.

by the time i got home, it would hang around 2000 rpm's. when i pulled into the garage, i just let it sit there at 2k to see if it would come down, but it didnt. so i fiddled with the throttle and gave it some revs, but it still hung at 2k. so i shut it off and stuck a fan on it(so i could cool it off and work on it later) and went inside and did what i planned to do(clean out my room)

so later in the night, after the engine was cool to the touch, i started it up and took off around the country. the idle was fine, when i put the clutch in it came down to 600ish like it usually does.

could it be heat related? my temp gauge never went above the middle. it was around 100ish when i went to target today, but i went top down and never touched the a/c. oh and speaking of which, when it was idling high, i tried running the a/c, and when i came to stops it went down to 1000 rpm's, but with the a/c off it hung at 2k.

im thinking about a full radiator flush and adding some water wetter(i hear it helps).

    any input?

When I use to own my 2g, it would do that due to a sticky throttle plate. If it does it again, you can try pushing against the cable assembly on the ThrottleBody to try and force the plate close. If the idle drops then thats the issue. I used some regular TB cleaner as well as adding more tension to the cable assembly spring. GL.

so it did it again tonight after some power runs with DSMlink.

i got home and it was hanging at 1500, so i grabbed my mechanix gloves(since it was hot as hell) and pushed on the shaft and it came down. so looks like im taking off a t/b tomorrow and cleaning it.

ok well i didnt take the whole TB off but i just sprayed TB Cleaner in there and the throttle cable spool part.

then after a good 5 minutes of driving in 100* heat it started hanging again.

i kept driving and doing more dsmlink logs, and the idle never went under 1500, but it never hung over 2k. which is something i guess i can deal with for temporary.

then i get home and close the throttle via the TB assembly and it returns to normal. i could give it a little rev over 2k and when it comes down it will still hang around 1500, then if i push on it it comes down to idle. i also found out if i push on it harder, i can actually kill the engine.

so i stuck a fan on the engine bay(super hot at the moment) and let it blow for a half hour. then started the car up, gave it some revs and it came down fine.

guess i gotta bust out the chiltons and adjust the throttle cable assembly.

There are 2 10mm screws holding down the throttle cable on the back of the intake manifold. Back those 2 bolts out and the cable will release it's tension. Drive it around with 0 tension and see if that fixes it.

do what manny says. i had this problem, as the motor warms up it expands the cable causing it to idle high. re adjusting the bolts fixed it. just make sure you have a tps reading of 100% after the car is warmed up.

do you mean the 2 bolts that holds the bracket on the back of the manifold? other than those 2 bolts that held the bracket that supports the sleeve of the cable before the cable is exposed and goes into the spool, i didnt see any other bolts but the TB ones.

    things i did today
made a boost leak tester(but right now jbweld is drying, its making the valve secure/airtight in the hole)
    picked up antifreeze
    picked up some watter wetter
    picked up new Radiator Cap
    ordered 180* T-Stat(comes wed)
