Thread: car running like poop

ok well my car started acting up. Its like it has 1/4 of the poewer when it acts up. Car will start and run great for a while a few start ups and turn offs. And then it start running like poop. The check engine light comes on , the idle stays the same but it like its missing realy bad. I still can r\drive it but not alot of power. I have replaced, plugs,wires,fuel filter,upper and lower intake hoses. Any help would be great. If any one has a palm or can help in anyway let me know. 90 ECLIPSE GSX

check the coil packs and the power transistor. If one or the other has a carbon trace in it from a short or arc internaly it would cause your exact problem because the current flows the path of least resistance and when you coils are firing and the PT is switching they build heat, the heat will raise the resistance of the windings in the coils and the the same in the PT. If the resistance gets high enough the carbon trace from a previous short will then become the path of least resistance. So make sure you do all the ohm tests after the car is warmed up and the problem is present. All you need for the test are one AA baterry, volt/ohm meter, and a chiltons or the internet.

ok did compresion test all good. forgot to say motor has 30,000 miles on it factory instal (big$$$$). I got a buddie at the dealer ship. so it goes in today to see if we could find anything. Also it having a hard time starting latly also. Tested battery,and altanater already. sorry for spelling 6am and rushing to go to work.
