Default Can anyone identify this sound? *vid inside*

Right now I need to figure out what the vibrating sound is coming from the driver side. I sure to hell hope this isn't another balance shaft failure.

    I saw this (A/C belt...):

Cut it off but car still sounds like this:

*The poor audio quality makes it sound quite a bit more harsh than it sounds in person*

When I come to think of it the lost block that was built had a similar sound until the balance shaft locked up and killed the oil pressure and froze the engine. Everyone told me the sound was the turbo but it wasn't.

This time I've checked the turbo and head and transmission and the sound is 100% coming from the driver side lower belt area. The T-Belt looks perfect as well and marks all line up...

A slowly seperating harmonic balancer is my first guess. If you want to check your balance shaft, I would first check the back of the block, unscrew the bolt, and run a long phillips screwdriver in there to make sure it's at least still in time with the rest of your timing.

Another guy told me this and it sounded like he might be right, which also may be the reason the other belt frayed is it got snagged.

I'm going to be checking it out this weekend.. Wanna help? :P

Make sure your alternator bolts are all tightened up correctly. That long bolt that goes through the alternator to the block has been known to come loose.

My crank pulley also went out on my red awd a long time ago and I went through 2 belts really fast. You can mark the pulley, run a straight line through the diameter of the pulley and keep your eye on it.

my money's on the crank pulley
    BIG PLANS.....STAY TUNED.....
