Default Oil leak between engine and tranny

My friend has a automatic 1998 Eclipse GS that has a oil leak where the tranny and the engine connect. The mechanic she brought it to said that its the seal that is in between the two. Does anyone know of a experienced mechanic/transmission shop that she can take it to? The place she went to said it would cost around $1-1.5k to fix. Seems outrageous to me, but I've never had to deal with any leaks from the transmission area before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well its either the rear main seal (which don't normaly leak on 420a's) or the front pump seal in the transmission

both need the transmission removed to change, both seals are less than $20 each and a shop should charge her no more than $500 to do the job,

5 hrs to RnR the trans and

.5 hrs to change the seal (thats with a smoke break too)

Is it ATF or engine oil leaking??

She told me it was leaking engine oil. She drove her car to work last time but didnt have time to check since we were both working. Are you able to help her do the job at M&S, Jonathan? You guys seem pretty busy there. If not, can you recommend a place for her to go to? I will get her to confirm if her car is leaking engine oil.

We are not doing any more service on DSM's as per ME

there is NO money to be made working on these cars, just money to be lost.

Auto Care Plus is a shop around the corner that does pretty good work

Talk to Mark, the shop number is 916-638-1600
