Default The 1G from Hell... It's worse than I thought!

Well I finally got the time and the right weather to go ahead and get the damn head off of my Talon to finally get everything going and rebuild it to it's former 400HP glory.

After I finally got a impact grade extender for my allen socket, the dismantling of the head was going WAY too easy. Minus busting one of the bolts for the turbo mani to the turbo inlet, everything went somewhat flawless (oh yeah, my ratchet no longer ratchets...) So I crossed my fingers as I mounted/straddled my engine bay and then reached over and picked up all 500lbs of intake, manifold, and head (yeah it may not be that much, but try pulling it straight out of the car for your first time... by yourself.. hahaha)

At this point I'm too affraid to look at the pistons so I stick the entire top end of my car onto my dolly and roll it back to my garage. Then I come back and see this:

    Piston #1

And then there is Piston #3

The walls are beyond perfect, and feel like they are brand spankin new. These are the 2 who seem like they made the biggest impact with the vlaves and after inspecting my head it looks like that's an obvious assumption (pretty much all the intake sides are done but they all could use being replaced)

So here I sit, dumbfounded.. there's no way I have the funds to replace my bottom end AND my top end. I'm pretty sure that if there are any knicks in the psiton heads it pretty much has to be replaced. My question is, what happenes if I dont replace those 2 pistons? What kind of effects would come from those little knicks in the pistons? Miss fires, detonation, etc?

I'm pretty stumped right now. I was in the process of buying all my top end parts, but if I have to take this entire engine out and redo the whole thing I almost rather buy another engine or just get rid of this car which has ran all of about 3-4 weeks of the 5-6 months I've owned it..

Any idea how much something like this would cost to fix?

Dings on the piston top wont effect to much but your compression set. If the walls are fine, then just rebuild the head and go. Snapped timing belts usually lead to piston tops that look like that.

i had this problem before. over reved, missed a shift like a noob. anyways only one valve touched it wasn't bad enough to replace. i rebuilt the head and got back to business. i would just redo the head and leave the pistons.

Sounds good guys.. As the parts keep piling in (I love ordering stuff.. I use to work for UPS so its nice to watch other people work...) I'm getting more and more jucied of what might be... We'll see how things go in the end. I got the rebuild dat set for next weekend (not this one..) The June 30th-2nd of July. If anyone wants to lend a hand or some advice, It'd be greatly appreciated. Don't think I'll leave ya hangin, I'm a good guy :P See you guys around... After this it'll be time for smog/ re-mod/ then une. And lastly, PAINT! Well sometimes speed becomes more of an issue than precision. And with speed comes blunders: Dropped boxes, kicked, stepped on, etc, etc. Oh btw.. Writing fragile on a LIGHT box usually will result in it getting booted.. I worked on the trucks but I saw the handlers who threw the packages into the carrier trucks and they were more focused on getting out before the morning traffic got to its height than getting the job done perfect... This is the Hub located in West-Sac BTW. Fed-Ex is also up there and is no different.

The higher the volume of packaging, the worse chance you have of getting a damaged box... The more efficient the handler, the less likely he will have to rush last minute to finish on time, meaning less mistakes. Its touch and go, but what can you say. You'd do the same thing in thier shoes hahaha

    So to not hijack,

So you are just doing the head right???

A head job done the right way is going to run you about 700-800, for parts and the head rebuild
