Default click...click, click, start. my car doesnt start sometimes

sometimes when i turn the key, the starter just makes a "click" and nothing happens. like how the ignition gets cut out when you set off the car alarm. thing is, if i turn the key hella times, eventually, it'll start like it normally would. my voltmeter shows 14 volts and i replaced the starter 2 years ago. does this happen to any of you?

Same exact thing happens to my friends 3kgt.....He also has an alarm.

Most likely, it is related to your alarm. Might be a starter kill relay on its last days, could be the alarms brain, I'll bet if you get rid of the alarm you wont have that problem anymore.

i thought it was the battery terminals too since they looked pretty bad and the negative wouldnt stay on tight. so they've already been replaced. i forgot to mention that in my first post. in response to other posts, the car doesnt turn over at all when it wont start, and im hoping its not related to the alarm since im really not all that electronically savvy. if the alarm has to go, im probably going to ask someone on this board to do it.

    any other theories?

Axle grease constantly killed my replacement starters. Might wanna check to make sure your contacts on the coil and starter itself are good. Also a bad ground could cause this, what point did you choose for a ground for your starter? I've always chose one of the tranny bolts so I know they won't back out.

On a side note, autozone replacement starters are probably as relyable as their 1g alternators. If everything else checks out, it wouldn't hurt to get it tested.

On ANOTHER side note (lol), my Impreza was recently doing this. I created a custom grounding kit and not only did it get rid of the problem, but start up comes on faster AND it rev's alot smoother. This lead me to believe the starter was getting a poor ground.
