It's been a while since I've posted here, and unfortunately it's probably with bad news. I have a 99GSX, and it's always been "noisy" while coasting in gear. This morning on the way to work, I noticed that this "noise" had changed from a sort of thrashing to something far more metallic. It's not real loud. I couldn't hear it with the window down or the radio on, so I can't say for sure how long it's been like this. It definitely sounds like it's coming from the tranny though.
I bought the car at 80K and changed the tranny fluid shortly after (Syncromesh) to see if it would quiet down the "thrashing" I heard. It didn't, but the old fluid came out clean. I'm now at about 113K. When I get home, I'll probably drain the fluid again and see if there's anything there.
Again, the sound is only audible while coasting in gear; no sound if in neutral or with the clutch in. Only other symptom, and it may not be related, is that every once in a great while I'll somehow "miss" third gear; I'll think that I've completed a 2-3 shift only to find it popped into neutral.
Anyone want to venture a guess? Or have any ideas on what to check? Any tranny gurus in Sac?
Thanks,
Brian
