Default New Tranny Oil Seals Leaking?

    Hey guys,

As some of you may know I recently replaced the clutch and flywheel on my 97 GST. Its been running fine except for a few things (alarm mysteriously doesn't work anymore...). I replaced the oils seals on the transmission where the axles go in as I was afraid they were damaged on removal. Now a few weeks later the fluid is leaking out from the seals! Are there any other reasons why it would leak out or did the new seals get damaged at some point when I was putting the car back together?

    Thanks

check your cv axles for side to side play.the axles could be wornout on the shaft side and then they won't seal.just an idea, can't think of anything else it could right now?did you use oem seals?I only like to use oem seals because the lips just look better made, they have threads going both ways and some aftermarket ones don't.

I did crawl under there when I noticed it and could move the cv axles side to side a little (meaning driver side to passenger side movement).

I also did use OEM seals as they are the cheapest thing I've ever found at the dealer...lol. Guess they didn't feel they could overcharge them too well like they do everything else.

Is it possible they would leak if the transmission were too full? I'm positive ite is not but all the old mechanics in my family think that could be the problem and I was under the impression it shouldn't leak anyways.

maybe you put them in backwards?

the lil spring goes in towards the inside of the tranny.

Welp, after replacing the brand new seals with new brand new seals and new c-clips the drivers side leak has stopped but the passenger side persists. Time to take it to someone cause I'm tired of dealing with this crap. God what a piece of junk...lol

Do you have Galant axles in your car??? I have seen that before, the parts store gives the wrong ones and they always leak

and if that seal was damaged when it was installed...DOH

I don't think they're Galant axles and they didn't leak at all before I did the clutch/flywheel installation. I thought maybe the first set of new seals got damaged when I installed so I was extra super duper careful with the 2nd set and still this BS happens. The first set looked fine when I took them out as well. What a pain in the ass.

Anyone know a place that will do the one side cheap and won't screw up my alignment in the process? I don't really trust the mechanic the rest of my family takes their cars too.
