Default First Impression. Bullseye TO4B-type turbo.

First off, David from Bullseye is awsome to deal with. One of the only owners I know of that actually is willing to talk to the end customer on the phone. Very helpful and when you have questions, he gets back to you promptly.

He sent me the entire turbo kit which includes the turbo, manifold and o2 gaskets, oil feed line, oil drain line, 2"-2.5" silicone elbow, and hardware. I'm writing up an install on this turbo and will be posting it in the soon-to-come "Write-up" section (Heres a sample... http://www.sacramento-dsm.com/writeup/writeup.htm ). It was shipped quick and promptly. The silicone hose was missing when I recieved my package, but David sent it off promptly.

Install is pretty much straight forward. Keep in mind that these turbos come with a thicker exhaust manifold flange to clear your stock waterpipe. These turbos come with a full sized Garret housing, which would normally mean denting of the waterpipe. Also, know that because the flange is thicker, it drops the turbo lower...alot lower. So if you have an upgraded exhaust manifold, keep that in mind.

The TO4B I got is suppose to flow about as much as a 50trim and keep lag times down. It is definetly bigger then a 20g, but the outlet is a smaller 2" when compared to a 60trim.

Just to give you a bit of background, my old setup was a fully supported Evo16g, 550ccs, 255, smic, 91octane, 19psi, STOCK everything else, 0 knock tune. With that old setup, I trapped around 104mph on 91 octane on a stock exhaust with the stock cat still in place. I'm sure at 24psi, C16, and a turbo back at the time would have netted me better trap speeds. I did put leaded 116 before, and it felt AWSOME at 21psi...but boy did it eat the stock sensor quick. The new setup consist of a fully supported TO4B, and I can honestly say that at 17psi, the butt-dyno tells me its stronger then my old E16g at 21psi on race gas!

I went to test it the other day to see where boost was set at on the lowest setting (since its an adjustable wastegate arm, no need for an MBC), and even at partial throttle, only building up 10psi was surprising. The first thing I did notice is the increase in lag time. E16g unported would get me full boost at around 3400rpms. This turbo seems to reach full potential at just under 4000rpms. So quick shifting is neccisary to stay in your powerband. But once it hits...it HITS! The old feeling of torque building you up to your powerband like on t25-18g's is gone with this turbo. Instead, you dont get any torque...you get this sudden OFF-to-ON feeling when boost comes on, and just out of nowhere pulls the crap out of you past redline. At 18psi, my car was knocking like a Beeyotch (22 counts!), timing was SUPER high up due to the larger injectors, and there would be NO way of telling that my car was knocking like that had I not looked at my logger. When the E16g would knock...you would know it. The car would fall flat on it's face. With this turbo, you really got to pay attention. It'll feel like your doing Hyper-Speed all the while burning a fat hole in your motor. During that 18psi run, I did a quick Dyno Chart pull just to see where the power band is. KEEP IN MIND, this is a 22count knock log at 18psi, untuned on 91 octane. And the dyno numbers are meaningless since they are on a logger. I just wanted to see the chart to give me an idea of where I'm at as far as power/torque ratio:

(stock head, stock short block, stock cams)

You can see on the HP line, where my stock 90 cams drop off right at 6k. It's pretty sad because you can feel the motor/turbo wanting MORE after that point. You can also see the 4k full boost buildup, as well as the NO TORQUE til after that point. I'm very excited to get this car running and will update again once she's dialed in with some real-time track/dyno numbers. (PLEASE NOTE: If you are thinking of getting a Bullseye turbo, it may be wise to wait until I can see if David will indeed support Sac-DSM with the proposed discount/club-special. I think it would be well worth everyones while. Just looking out for you guys...)
