Default SBR Manifold and how to tell you got one!

Ordered an SBR Mani 1st gen because I wanted to go for stealthness and not have to hassel with opening up a 2g mani to mate with my Evo3. Ordered it from Slowboy with their already understood great service on parts like these. Here are some angels of it fitted on the car, to help you determine if you have one, if you picked up your DSM used or something:

Opening differences between stock vs SBR. Tons of pic comparisons online, but here are mine:

The exhaust runners are so big, that the stock flange isn't a big enough opening for the SBR mani. In this pic you can clearly see how much larger the opening is and the casting around it.

Here you can see the left side of the manifold REALLY sticking out past the side of the head. The runners are a good size larger then the stock manifold, so this should be very noticable.

    Another angle:

On the top right side of the manifold, you will notice the mani-to-head flange is shaped differently as well.

Here it is fitted on the car:

And then it looking beautifully hidden :)

Now if Jonathan will hand me back my Evo3, I'll let you know how she holds up :) So this is a partial review. Continuation in a few days (hopefully).

i have a gt manifold on my car and it looks exactly the same. i think it's the same casting. i got mine from dsmparts.com. it's cheaper than sbr. anyways i've had it on my car and haven't had problem besides trying to get one of the exhaust nuts on. i would recomend grinding the side of the nipple off for the heat shield bolt on the left side. otherwise it's a pain in the ass, trust me i've taken it off plenty of times. your also going to have to grind one side of the washers flat for the top studs to make them fit. besides that it looks good. i also wanted the sleeper look when i got mine. plus i dont have to worry about my mani cracking since its so damn thick.

Thats strange, I just test fitted everything and I don't seem to have a clearance problem with any of the nuts or flat washers. It looks to me that the only modification needed is to the heat shield holes for the bolts. On my 2g heat shield, it doesn't quite stretch out far enough so it'll probably have to be drilled a bit. Strangly though my 1g heat shield clears just fine. On either heat shield though, I noticed you have to bend and open up the opening a bit for the thick casting to clear.

As far as pricing goes, yes that a good amount cheaper ($199 vs 169). Granted that they are they same part. From the pictures they definetly 'look' the same and the description matches, but this grinding you speak of for clearance is what has me concerned.

We get free shipping through SBR after a certain amount, maybe we can work something out with DSMParts and get a similar deal.

i just measured the ID or my manifold. the runners at the flange are 1 7/16 x 2 1/8 and where the housing bolts is 2 7/16. what's yours measure? the washers dont HAVE to be cut, but on mine if i didn't clean up the bottom edge it was touching the runner and not letting the washer seat perfectly flat on the flange. as for the nipple for the heat shield. it also does not have to be ground down, but i makes working on that stud much easier.
