Default AEM UEGO Wideband Model #304100

Just thought I'd throw up a quick review which will need to be updated because of the circumstances surrounding this product. I just wanted to get this little bit of info out in case anyone was looking to purchase this gauge in the near future, as it might change their decision.

I ordered mine from www.sportcompactonly.com for around 290 shipped.

Package- Came in a nice litlte box, with everything you need. Includes o2 bung, o2 sensor, gauge, black and white face and ring, which are screw on which makes it easy to change the face, even if its in the car already. Has 2 harnesses, one that has power, ground, and a serial output, the other goes to the o2 sensor. The wire for the o2 sensor harness is pretty long so you won't have a problem running it through the car and out. Also has some crimp connectors for when you splice in the power and all that good stuff.

Install- Install was pretty simple, get the o2 sensor bung welded into the downpipe 36" from exhaust ports, and install the gauge in the car, wire up the power/grnd, run the harness for the o2 to it and plug the other ends of both harnesses into the gauge.

Issues-Ok, so heres the important part. I installed the gauge and wired up the power and all that when I recieved it, when I installed my new boost gauge, that way when I had time to get the o2 welded in, all I had to do was plug it into the back. The gauge was hooked up in the car with no o2 signal for about 2 weeks after I bought it, and last weekend I was finally able to go get the o2 bung welded in and install the sensor. When I took the gauge out of the pod (a-pillar pod) the back of it had deformed quite a bit, to the point that I couldn't plug the o2 sensor harness into the back...Call me crazy but I don't think the damn thing should melt being ~$300 and a racing a product. So basically AEM used some cheap...crappy plastic for the backing instead of some sort of metal, like all my other gauges have. My 40 dollar AC S7 boost gauge of course was fine, cause they could afford to make the back part metal. Its all deformed now and I'm going to call AEM and see what they have to say. They have no email address available on their website to inquire about such things, just incase like me, thats how you like to do your business if possible.

I will try to post up some pics of everything later, and especially the gauge and what the back looks like now that its melted cheese.

Alright, I called AEM up to see if they'd warranty it, and told them about what happened. The guy said that the gauge did that because I only hooked up the one harness...without hooking up the one for the O2. He said it had no where else to go. Doesn't the electricity flow to the ground if it has nowhere else to go? I find it hard to believe that was the case also, because the gauge is still working and isn't "burned out," the casing is just deformed. I read through the instruciton manual also and it doesn't mention any warnings about hooking one without the other. What do you guys think? Did he just come up with a good excuse not to warranty it?

if it was not hooked up, it didn't have a ground for that side and used the case of the gauge as the ground. that's why it would warp.
i have the same gauge, and i have both hooked up. no problems.

Power and ground were the ONLY things hooked up. The case is plastic.

Sounds like you're not very happy with the craftsmanship of the gauge. I'll take note of that when I'm buying a WideBand.
    BIG PLANS.....STAY TUNED.....

Have you tried posting your findings on dsmtuners and dsmtalk? I find it hard to believe that the back is made out of plastic in the first place. Secondly, I don't see why having the harness side disconnected would cause that. If that is truely the case, then having a faulty o2 sensor would cause the same thing. Doesn't sound like it was designed well if thats true. What about the times you will need to replace the sensor, you just have to run with an open circuit? Doesn't make sense to me. Keep us posted.

This is probably the newer style gauge that they just released so thats why it might have a plstic casing. The gauge is indeed still working, I decided to just file down some of the plastic so I could hook up the sensor harness. If it melts some more though I will have to call AEM again and put some pressure on them, its pretty loose in the pillar pod hole right now, so it might start falling out. I would recommend against it right now, especially if the gauge can't stand up to the sun.
