    Default Waterpump Q's

    Hey guys,

My cars down right now and when I did the timing belt at 60k, being a newb, I didn't know I should have done the water pump. I'm at the point where I should replace some of the coolant hoses so I figure I better do that too. What do you guys recommend to go with for the water pump? Should I go to Mitsu and get it, or is there a cheaper replacement thats just as good somewhere?

    Thanks,
    Fritos

Mitsu ones are nice and theres another brand just as good. Pro Street has it and some other places do as well. The name is GMB or something like that.

    Edit:

If you do order it make sure they send you the right one because I ordered the 2g and I got a 1g one. It includes the gasket as well. And make sure that one is the GMB brand.

Thanks I'll look into that one. So no one else has changed a waterpump and can tell me which ones implode, etc =).

The wps from prostreet are good. The last time I did a T-belt I used their kit and almost all of it was in Mitsu packaging with Mitsu part numbers. Good stuff, no plastic pieces on that water pump.

unless youve noticed that your starting to run hot or have noticed a coolant leak from the overflow hole on your pump i would wait. ive seen stock pumps last well over 200k miles.

Alright, but what other symptoms might show up before it goes? And if it goes...isn't there a good chance the engine will go to? Never had a water pump fail or seen what happens when they do so I don't know the consequences =).

That's pretty much your only warning. If that overflow hole is puking coolant, it's almost too late. If you're starting to overheat it's almost too late. There're aren't really any "wear" indicators. It's either good, almost shot, or shot.
