    Default New Engines

Does any one know of a place close to the bay area that deals in engines. I need a new engine for my 95 eclipse GST and im trying to look around but finding a place is proven difficult. Engine World in Emeryville quoted me $1100 out the door but im trying to see if i kind find a better deal.
    Thanks

hey man, if you need an engine and wouldn't mind picking up a used one, try calling Jonathan at M&S in sacramento.

as far as brand new ones, last i heard he had some sitting around. so you might ask him.

Just for info ALL "2g Eclipse" "turbo" engines that come from Attarco are N-T Cedia engines!! they have been ripping off people for years that way....UNLESS you got your engine fully dressed with the turbo and all accesories then you have an EVO1-3 engine. Just pull your spark plug out and peep down at the top of your piston to see if it has an <63T on it...if it does you got luky, if it just has a <63 then you got took!!!

What do you mean fully dressed and then you have an EVO 1-3 engine?
And how do you tell if it has a <63t?

hmm so thats why when my friend put in my motor he kept telling me "they gave you the wrong motor, they gave you a non turbo motor" he usually only works on hondas so I never thought much of it.

Many people fail to realize that Eclipses were NEVER sold, nor built in Japann there for the 4G63t engines that get imported to us are out of other cars, here is a list
If you get any engine that is COMPLETE, and I mean with the intake manifold, exhaust, turbo, fuel injectors, coils, throttle body, most of if not all sensors, and usually half of the engine harness cut off. You know you are getting a correct engine

if you have a 6 bolt early style 4g63t the engine you will get most likley came out of a Galant VR-4, and if you got lucky you got one with a big16g and 510cc injectors (yellow not blue)
and it comes with a RED valve cover (wooooooo Red is for racin'!!! HAHA)

And if you have a 7 bolt 95-99 4G63t engine, yours came from an EVO 1-3 because that generation of Evolutions were produced in that same basic time frame also, untill the 4's came out with the newer style 4G63 (no the 4 engine will not fit in your 2g)

    BUT>>>>>>>
If you got an engine in LONG BLOCK FORM: All stripped down i.e. no intake, no exhaust, no sensors, NO TURBO.
It is bare, just the valve cover, head, block, oil pan, and the timing belt components.

the <63t or <63 is a Mitsu factory piston casting number on the top dish of the pistons which is viewable through the spark plug hole (unless you want to remove the head for a better look, no don't do that!)

That's probably the best advice you can give anyone when buying an Attarco motor. Since you're buying a used motor with gawd knows how many miles, it's probably a good idea to replace the head gasket anyway. Get some ARP head studs. This will let you know what motor you just bought for damn sure. You can then check the length of the stroke much easier with the head off, as well the diameter of the bore, then see if it comes within spec of a 4g63T. Even MORE importantly, I would suggest taking off the oil pan and do a quick inspection while it's out of the car.
