    Default Smog Questions

I'm looking to pick up a 1g awd this weekend. Only problem is there is no vac lines and no egr. The hood is aftermarket, so there is no vac diagram on it. Assuming I can get it to pass visual, will it pass the sniffer without all that stuff hooked up?

If anyone "knows a guy", please PM me with the info. I definately don't want to pass up this deal on this car but I'm hesitant because of the whole smog thing...

I guess worst case, I have to go through it and put new vac lines on. My buddy has a 1g thats stock, so I could borrow parts off his if I had to....

I just smogged my white 1gb a few months ago and they actually busted out a vacuum pump and tested out the EGR valve. He looked at the vacuum lines and "tried" to understand where they went.

Make sure you set your timing at 5*.

Beat the hell outta the car right before you pull in to the smog place.

Run the best gas that you can get.

preventive maintenance won't hurt you either.....new plugs, wires, fuel filter, pcv valve, air filter, oil change.

Timing belt, BS elimination, and water pump right after you smog it.

I have a logger incase you wanna swing by and use it.
    BIG PLANS.....STAY TUNED.....

Theyre usually pretty anal on the whole vacuum line thing..

The only thing that will affect the sniffer test is the egr.. If the egr is disconnected and NOT blocked off with a proper block off plate your HC's will go up..

Last time i went in for a smog before this one i had a block off plate in between my EGR and intake manifold.. I passed the sniffer but it was failing the functional test (They hook up a vacuum pump to the egr and pump it up to see if the car starts to stumble)..

BUT the chances are extremely good that it wont pass a smog if its been hacked to death,..

All depends on the previous owner..

A rule of thumb is never ever expect to buy a 1g and not dump a ton of money into it...

    hmmmm good info..thanks.

I checked out ebay, I can get a working egr for like $15. Vac line doesn't cost much. I'm thinking absolute worst case I can re-run all the lines. There a plenty of vac line diagrams floating around so it shouldn't be too difficult.

I'll definately make sure the car is nice and hot before I take it to smog, especially since its awd. I know that not being on the rollers means less load which means the cat isn't going to get as hot. I had this issue with my 2g awd. I'll also throw in some g2p (guaranteed to pass) and maybe 100 octane just before I smog it. Of course, basic maint. comes first (oil, air filter, plugs etc etc).

Droopy I might hit you up for your help. :)

Ah sweet. I was just hoping I could smog it how it is, but not a big deal if I need to hook up the vac lines it only takes a few minutes. :)

hehe also.. You can do what I did for jasons car..

Lean the hell out of it on an SAFC for 750 and 2500 rpm's..

I leaned it out untill it started to stumble and brought it up a notch or 2..

His HC #s were funny as hell..

    750 rpm 120 is a pass..

    he hit like 7

    2500 rpm 140 ish is a pass..

    he was at like 9..

hehe i guess the smog dude was shocked..
