I picked up a 97 GST in mint condition besides the bottom end. There's a guy here with a 93 7bolt for sale that would be nice and convienent but I'm guessing the 1G and 2G 7bolt blocks are different, like their cranks are. Am I right?

Different, by far even the cranks
The block bolt pattern on the rear is just like the 6 bolts only 4 trans to block bolts instead of 5
and the block does not have the coolant bung (yes bung ) on the front of the block fot the turbo water feed.![]()
The lower main girdle is also different.
Lee did you ever use that 2.4l block??
I have another good one of those sitting over here for $200

I still have it! It's all pretty and ready to go fast with all sorts of toys but I have nothing to put it in! I'd throw it in this GST but it's going to get sold quick and I still crave AWD. I could sell that thing for double up here, I wish I were closer lol
So swapping a 93 7bolt into a 2G would probably be useless then huh? I might as well throw a 6 bolt into it if I'm going to go through the trouble, right?

Yea, unless you get the engine for next to nothing, the engines don't have the crank walk problems of the 2g's
Or You could pick up a 6 bolt builder at a pick n pull for $100 and have a nice complete core to start with.
Let me eplain on the cranks, the only thing that is the same is the bolt pattern on the butt of hte crank,
the brearing journals and thrust size is all different, even the counter weights are bigger on the 1g 7bolt.
I would say its just like your 97+ 2.4l crank I sold you save for a 87mm stroke instead of 100mm

Why did Mitsu stop making 6 bolts?
Yeah, I knew about the cranks, maybe I just worded it wrong. I wasn't clear on the rest of the lower end lol. Thanks for clearing that up Jonothan, I'll just get a 6 bolt or look for a 97+
