Default new to DSM's... need help with an engine situation

my 94 laser turbo has been running crappy since my brother gave it to me, so today i did a compression test and checked the timing... i have low compression on the first cylinder, and my crankshaft timing marks are gone(?)... i was wanting to build a 6 bolt engine for my senior project, and now i have a reason to get my parents to help pay... i was wanting to know how much a 6 bolt short block would usually go for, and what all would i need to do the swap (do i need a different flywheel or tranny, or a different ECU, or what all do i need?)... thanks

6 bolt block, flywheel, and oil pan, water pump and oil pump (i'd get it because you can hook up the external oil cooler). that's all i can think of right now...

I have a 6 bolt block. I sorta wanted the 1g rods, but right now it's pretty much a complete shortblock... you'll need a new oilpan, I sold that already. I was sorta looking to sell it for like $300 as is, but would prolly be willing to do some negotiating, and I've got a bunch more parts that you might have a use for. (I took most of a '90 GSX apart)
