Default Quick question for some of ya.

Now don't get me wrong but I know cars are the greatest thing since sliced bread, and whiskey but
I run into people all day who have all these huge plans for their cars and tell me about how they want to do this and that, then turn around and ask how to install a boost gauge or a set of lowering springs..........WTF!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't do computers for the simple reason I don't know much about them, and I don't care to.
So I don't mess with them.
Now I am not trying to set up this huge crazy super computer in my garage to take over the world if I can't even put a picture in this post.

So my beef is If you are going to mess with your car at least get to know the basic working of it, the City colleges have basic automotive classes you can take at night for $19 a unit.
Heck take a Engine Performance class at ARC with Mr. Green (the guy was an F1 Engine tech for BMW in the 80's!!)
You will be blown away, Plus you will save money in the long run working on your own car and not screwing it up, and I will not get asked EVERY DAY and I quote "I want to do a 4g63t swap into my 96' Eclipse non turbo what do I need???" I always have the same reply......If you have to ask....you should not even be thinking about doing it!!

i couldnt agree more with you. i kno im not the smartest guy when it comes to cars and i still probably come off as pretty dumb to most, but if there's one thing i do kno, its that you learn sh!t through experience. i would still be pretty dumb if my dad didnt hand me down our 87 grand voyager when i turned 16. after one summer consisting of a bent half shaft, a broken motor mount, and a fuel pump failure (on the freeway in the fast lane), i learned pretty damn quick that i didnt kno sh!t about cars.

i kno some guys that that have most/all their mods done by shops. you might be thinkin that, yea, you've had a mod or two done through a shop, but this is for simple things like intakes and gauges. i try to tell them that they could just drive over to my house and i'll show them or we could do it together, and they'll say "oh fo sho." next time i see them, they got more mods, and who did it? a shop of course. on the other hand, i have a friend who isnt into cars at all but his car breaks down like every other month. he didnt really know what to say when i asked him what he repaired but he showed me and i was pretty impressed with what he could do with a basic set of wrenches and a haynes manual.

a lot people have big plans but just need the right people to talk to. ive been lucky that my dad is a muscle car head and ive never seen someone pull a broken stud like he can (ie. during turbo swap, broke an exhaust manifold stud and had nothing sticking out to grab on to). im just as frustrated as the next guy about how ricers like to run their mouths, but im sayin that some people just need the right person/people to talk to.

i know exactly what you mean.when i lived in florida there was a guy that had a busted up mazda mx-3 and he said he was gonna be running 11's,i was like yeah sure, you got bout 50k,lol.he use to always askme how fast my NT was,and i use to always say the same thing, about as fast as a caravan :P .Now i'm not a mechanic, since i only worked there for 3 years, but i can do any repairs that i might need to do that i don't need a plant for.Call me lazy or spoiled, but i will not drop a tranny in a bakyard. Now tuning i suck, all i know how to read is my O2 readings, but hey i gotta learn sometime. The funny thing was that guys gave up on his 1.8 L v-6 monster and vrought in one of those drift R/C cars and started braggin on on how his car was so fast in "Scale " speed.man, there are some crazy people out there.I've ever pulled a motor out by myself, but i have helped on alot of them.the main thing here is to try and get your hands dirty a little bit and you will enjoy the fruits of your mods so much more then just ordering parts online and say here put em in.
hi, I'm the idiot behind the wrench.

i get in arguments with people who say that.

i tell them "this isnt gran turismo, real modders dont go by stages". then their comeback is "well my homeboy has a stage3 hatch that can own you senseless". usually i just flip them off and show them my "stage 82.5 1/2".
