Default why do dsm's get lowballed so much??

im just wondering why people try to lowball dsm's so much.. like a first gen pretty cherry awd car will go for like 2,500 but a crappy 88-91 honda civic with a salvage title will go for the same..i know dsm have problems but its all how you maintain it right.my dsm has been way more reliable than my crappy crx (which is by the way broke down!!) or my 1994 eg hatch with a ls-vtec( that i sold!! )and it will run circles around these too!!..hondas are known for their grinding tranny's, bad distributors, blowing headgaskets, burnt rings, also but it gets swept under the carpet.... I think we gave ourselves a bad rap degrading our cars all the time about them breaking. time to raise our prices!!

yeah.. i see your point... its good when you buy them cheap but not when you bought it for $2,000 and put $3,000 in mods and cant even sell it for the $2,000 you bought it for..

That goes for anything though. I think first gens are only staying in the 3k range do to it's recent popularity. They really should only be Blue Booked for $1500 imo with how old 89-90's are.

yeah that is true..I think bluebook only goes for run of the mill cars...look at hondas 92-95 cx hatchbacks they book for only 1,200-1,500 but still are selling for 3 ..popularity i guess. but still our car's have alot to offer than most in that year..i still see damn 1990 ford taurus and some beat up ass hondas selling for more than our dsm's..I think that sucks..i just hope they increase in demand.. they are getting hard to find in decent trim...hope you guys understand my slight annoyance of this...

i see where you're coming from. but it's all market in demand, much like anything else. popularity in a product increases the price. take for instance a set of Levi Jeans; they used to be somewhat pricey back in the day compared to most jeans found at say... Walmart... now that they're not as popular, the prices have dropped and prices of jeans from Hollister have raised up the bar by being $75 for one. when they're not to popular anymore, they'll probably shrink in cost to around $40-50.

Part of it is about supply and demand in the population. When I was shopping for my car I had a difficult time finding a 97-99 GST or GSX near bluebook value. Now I see a few of them very near bbk value, but doesn't really matter to me anymore. I'm happy with my ride. Limited amount of turbocharged eclipses in an area raises the price, but there has to be a demand for them from consumers for that price to stay higher than bbk. There are other variables to account for also (i.e., some DSMers are lowballers, if the buyer is a DSM enthusiast, if they're looking for a car with more mpg, 4 doors, whose actually paying for the car, age of buyer).

DSMs aren't exactly popular over here or it doesn't seem to be IMO. My friends don't know much about the Eclipse when I talk about it, but when I mention a honda they'll know what they are. I didn't know about the turbocharged version of the Eclipse until I started doing research about the 2g Eclipse during my car hunting period.

I agree with Lee's statement, "keep them low..." I wouldn't mind paying less for the parts I need. :D

dsmers are lowballers cause they want cheap power. thus they choose dsm's. its sad cause these are great cars and they get a bad rep cause of their uncanny knack to fail at the most un-opportune moment, usually because of install error because we like to cheap out on things.

though the only time my car has died is cause of the alternators, my dsm eats them for breakfast. not the cars fault, i blame reman alts from autozone.

were not lowballers, what are you talking about!!??I just helped my buddy buy a 98' GS spyder with 80k and tip top mint condition, garage stored, but rebuilt title for 4900,she's a beauty. It's a players game, gotta play ball.I don't mind paying a reasonable price for a part at all,but some people want new shop in the box prices for their, like new product, call me cheap,if it aint got a plastic wrapping around it,i aint payin plastic wrapping prices.just my.02
