thermal 3" for $550.
or you can get SS brake lines and clutch line. those are good upgrades. or a new clutch.

What are your plans with the car? If you've done the rest of the maintence, plugs wires, thermostat, blah blah blah, I'd use the $500 to get a fuel system set up for whatever turbo you'll end up with. If you're looking for instant gains, an exhaust, clutch, or turbo upgrade would be the best bet. I know you don't want an exhaust but that's a big upgrade for our cars. It will even make the T-25 put out more in the mid range before it dies off. If you don't have anymore than $500, a turbo might not be a good choice.
good suggestion Lee.
it's always a good thing to look at your plans for the car. i know you said that you're a student and you don't want to go all out with the car. so if you're just looking for a quick daily driver, i'd recommend looking into suspension mods for a cleaner look and better handling or just a simple exhaust or clutch upgrade like Lee said.

Sounds like a misaligned oil pump sprocket/rear balance shaft. I would have it checked as even though it looks aligned, it can be off. Signs of this are much more engine vibration and louder above 3k rpms.
