    Default can cops do this?

i was going to the in and out by 50 last night and i was with some friends, bike cop pulls 3 out of 6 of us over and we all get tickets for modified exaust. i got one for exaust, intake and tail lights. cops told us only time we are allowed to drive is from our house to the shop to get everything fixed. and if we are caught driving again, we'll get arrested for a misdemenor and our cars will be towed. can they do that

oh and when we got pulled over a bunch of guys in muscle cars started talking crap, the cop heard them and asked what they said, they said it again and he didnt do anything. they all left and not one of the cops go after them even though they had modified exaust too.

intakes are not illegal. exhausts are also not illegal. what's wrong with your tail lights? the bike cop has to hear your exhaust running and based on whether it's over the dB limit, then he can ticket you. but he has to actually test it too. he can't hear it from a distance or while driving. he has to sit there and listen to you idle.

    wrong.

unless the intake has a carb number, its illegal.

technically, if you read the CA vehicle code book, any modification that doesn't have a carb number is illegal.

The cop DOESN'T have to test you right then and there for a modified exhaust. Usually you will get sent to a ref station for the db test.

Yes, they can tell you that you cannot drive your car except to get it fixed. You are driving a car that has some sort of illegal parts on it, its not legal for use on CA roads...

And thats why I bought a rustang, my exhaust is damn loud, and cops don't even look my direction.

if you have one of those silencer things that slide into the end of the exhaust pipe, just use that. slide that thing in, then go have the db test done and they'll dismiss it.

umm no. actually, you're wrong. i've already been to court for this stuff and beat all of it.
try and go search for my posts on modified exhaust systems. i even posted the CHP bulletin and regs. they're not illegal. and yes, they HAVE to test you on the spot by listening to it according to their regulations. and even just listening to it is not a good/valid reason for a ticket. the exhaust is in good working order and is not a modified version of the stock exhaust (holes cut in it to make it louder). and the commissioner at the supreme court house said anything with a K&N is carb legal. it doesn't matter if it's a hard pipe or a rubber one because that makes no difference.

Modified exhaust is a bs ticket, most don't go over db limits except for hondas. But according to the cops "no we don't have anything better to do, because we're saving lives" lol I could umm.....die of annoyance of a modified exhaust? Well I don't know i'm just a fast and furious watchin' neon lights havin, cannon-style exhaust havin, weavin through traffic ricer.

you'd better check your facts bud. if it doesn't have a carb number IT'S ILLEGAL. plain and simple. no if and's or but's about it.

I've been in court over the same shit, everyone has. The chief of police lives next door to me, and another cop on the other side. I talk to them all the time about this shit (when they see me working on my cars...). Do some research before you post some retarded ass comments. Read up on the CA vehicle code book Here, i'll post it for you...
