Man we all get phantom knock, comes standard on 4G63s ;) I can vouch for it, even with a 98

Yea, 2gs have much better electronics, sensors and your ecu is simply smarter, it filters out phantom knock much better than the 1g's, from my observations 2g's occasionally get phantom knock spikes whereas 1g's get a constant 43 counts at a certain rpm range. It's much more likely for 1g's to have this problem...

I've read countless threads on tuners, nabr, and the old dsmtalk of 2gs with rediculous phantom knock, especially those of us with DSMChips knock gauges who can monitor it all of the time. I was one of them. I think most 2gs with phantom knock just can't tell. They can't log it and can't even see it unless they've got the knock gauge conversion or DSMLink.

Phantom knock is very common in 2gs. I'm not so sure that I'd say they can't tell. I think it's more a matter of them not associating phantom knock with the hesitation they experience.

Even on the DSMLink forums, where every person on that board has all the tools needed to diagnose phantom knock, there are many threads from people who ask why their CEL is randomly flashing.
