Default DUI Checkpoints are not... a growing abuse

It is with great restraint that I am keeping this from turning into a cop bashing forum.

WHAT; Regarding CITY cops, since they got you stopped, why not see what else they can get you on.

    Bottom line: MONEY

I'm not sure if you guys saw the news report, KCRA Channel 3 covered DUI checkpoints and the growing number of tickets, impounds issued at those DUI checkpoints. The issue came up when city cops were doing more than DUI checks at their stops. For example, the CHP will only perform searches for potentially drunk drivers at their checkpoints, whereas city cops were writting tickets for anything and everything they can think of and impounding cars at any chance they can get. Why? The city knows that for all these tickets and impounds issued, collected revenue will follow. Even if the cops impound the wrong car for the wrong reason, they know that it will take a certain amount of money to get the car out of impound with charges dropped. Citizens have complained that they city cops have misrepresented the use of "DUI Checkpoint" by turning it into a full on DOT/DUI/Inspection stop. What is being done to stop it? Nothing. The City explains it as being an extension of their duties to protect the citizens.

You don't even want to know that I think about this, because Manny will ban me for vulgarity. But I'm giving you a heads up that if you care about your ride, dont hand it over to the THEM by driving into their trap.

If you and I do it, it's called racketeering and extortion... when cops do it, it's called law enforcement.

    what a load of bs.

besides, the checkpoints here say "DUI/DWI Checkpoint". if they asked what i had under the hood id just tell them "this is a DUI checkpoint as stated on the sign, you have no grounds to do a inspection" and take off.

id lead them in a high speed chase right into my garage. call up my daddy on the way and tell him were taking down the state and to get a shitload of the highest lawyers/attorneys on the phone cause im comin in hot.

lol, thats funny, well if it makes you guys feel better, this is going on all over the country.back in Miami,in my single days,I got caught for trying to pick up a hooker,so the bicth was a cop.I got arrested and they Impounded my car( 89 mits colt :p ).
It cost me 1000 dollars to get my car back from the impound and thatsb only cuz i got it out the next day.that Night they impounded 58 more vehicles(including a fire truck),at 1g a pop, that makesabout $58,000 it a very profitable night for the city.to me my friends, this is organized legal crime, what can i say?You wanna hear somthing funny about them trying to get all the horny bastards off the street? The bitch would only talk to the suckers that were in cars,if you walked up to her walking she wouldn't give you the time of day.so i ask myself,Were they trying to get all the horny asterds off the streets or trying to make some money for christmas bonuses.the defense rests your honor.

modification to the stock truck, (i.e. "custom water hoses" lol )

Speaking of cops anyone else hear about the lapd shootout? Well if you call firing 120 bullets into a vehicle where the driver was unarmed, and in a residential neighborhood.

This whole bringing in more State revenue thing became apparent to me when I got pulled over for having a license plate tail light out, and the officer asking me to pop my hood. Got sent to a smog reff for a stock bov??!! Come on now, sounds to me like they are getting desperate. Alot of the check points take place on both Sunrise and Douglas. So be mindful of those 2 spots. Avoid them and you guys shouldn't have a problem.

DUI checkpoints are total BS.. read the 4th ammendment. I think it is funny that on a car we have to have our exhaust be within a certain decible limit or else face scrutiny and a ticket. Ride a Harley though, and it doesnt matter how ear drum shattering the exhaust is.... as for sunrise... that road is dead to me. I am suprised that all the alcohol serving establishments on sunrise have not withered away due to all the cops.

I see it both ways. Yes it is unfair to have the checkpoints in which cops harass you for things other then being drunk, but each and everyone one of us knows that it is illegal to modify our cars and that cops will have a problem with that. If we all had perfectly stock cars and were driving sober then we wouldn't even worry about a stupid checkpoint. Some cops are lame when they pull people over for stupid reasons, but that is how they catch a lot of criminals by pulling them over for something as simple as a light out. Keep in mind driving is a "privilege" and not a right. :)
