Default Cops Got Me For Nothing

I wrecked my gsx a couple weeks ago when going to get some milk on rainy night. as i was turning a corning i hydro planed and hit a sidewalk ripping off my axle and bounced me to the center divider ripping off my other axle and bending my lower control arms like a wish bone. sad by this i saved up money buying part by part until i got everything i need to replace the parts that broke on me during the accident. Since my gsx was already in the garage i decided to convert my 2ga into a 2gb and save up for a punishment racing intercooler. i saved up and put it all on the car and even went and bought another set of stock eclipse rims because the ones i had before were totaled from the wreck. i finally got it back onto its feet. after driving it around the block a couple of times i noticed my exhuast was broken somehow? so i ordered a new one and when it came in the mail i headed to my freinds muffler/body shop thats about 5 miles down the road. on my way there i notice so many police cars driving around even motorcycle cops pulling ppl over and a chp gets behind me and turns on the lights. as i pull over. i politly ask the officer if there is somthing wrong? he ignores my question and ask for license and registration, after i showed him he finally tell me the reason he pulled me over is cuz of my broken muffler. i tell him that i am on my way to the muffler shop and showed him the brand new muffler that was on the passenger side seat. so then he goes ok open ur hood, i say yes sir and i open the hood and he tells me to sit on the sidewalk after he searches me. when he looks at my car he ask do u have a "eo" number for ur air intake? and i say eo number? wat is that? and the cop says "thats wat i thought". im confused cuz i have a stock rubber intake and he point at my intercooler and says "by the state of california all air intakes are required to have eo numbers" i tell the officer that that is not an air intake its an intercooler, he gets mad from the look of his face and ask me wat kind of honda motor i have in my car and why did i install that turbo for? i look at him in confusment and i tell him sir is that a serious question? its a mitsubishi eclipse gsx model and the turbo comes stock in this car. he looks even more mad and he tells me to point out where my air intake was, so when i showed him he agian asked for an eo number. i told him it doesnt have one because its stock. he pulled out his booklet and told me that my because i dont have an eo number that my car is consider an unsafe vehicle and cannot be drivin until i see a state ref. he handed me the ticket told me good luck and took off. all this for a stupid eo number and i still dont even no what the hell that means. im guessing he is talking about a carb sticker? but i was in shock how rude he was and angry that he asked wat kind of honda motor do i have.

here is the wreck and what happend to my axles and lower control arms

here is the new look on my car now

lol i would have been livid and likely taken to jail for assault on an officer.

id talk to his superior and explain the situation, and hopefully itll get dropped and this d-bag cop will get some necessary punishment. changing out the intercooler is perfectly acceptable as long as the car came with one stock, our forum smog tech can verify this. if your intake was truly stock you should have no problem getting it thrown out. Now by all means do i not expect an officer to know how every engine bay should look, but cmon, at least know what a stock airbox looks like.

on a side note, you should get the bumper painted and lose the tribals, you are likely garnering more attention like that.

WOW, you havd the right to say no to his search of your vehicle. Stockton police department has been sued for this type of "profiling" in the past. He is not trained enough to make thoose acusations. I know everyone says this and in most cases I would say it is wrong, buttttt, I would sue the department. If he is never punished then why would he stop. If you were driving a 427 cobra with dual 4" side pipes and no mufflers he would have pulled you over to give you a high-five. It is tottal bullshit. PM me if you want the number for an attory that specializing in lawsuits against the state. This stuff makes me sick. How can an ignorant piece of shit get away with harassing people like this. I am sorry not everyone want a piece of crap pushrod v8. That guy should loose his job and go join everyone else in line at EDD. Just becuase you have a badge doesn't make you right.

ya i am planning to paint the car a a gun metal grey so i dont catch attention anymore. Man this guy i swear, i would explain to him the situation and it jus go in one ear and come right out the other. what got me thinking is that i hear on his radio a bunch of other cops saying they found street racers and atempting to pull over. one cop even said that a honda engine serial didnt match the vin on the car is the officer that was with me can go help him out. then he said he was already with a street racer. that got me mad and i told him im not a street racer that not to be calling me names he doesnt no who i am or wat i do he has no right to say im a street racer. man so much hard work and money i put into my car to put it back on its feet and these cops try to put me down. its not goen to happen. so far he gave me fix it tickets for my car being to low by half an inch, having a filter on my valve cover and not a hose connecting to my intake, and illegal modifications. i am going to fight this. cuz now i cant even drive my car without worring im gunna get pulled over agian and my car is going to get towed

Sorry, but that is what happens when you drive an orange car with painted gold wheels and tribal vinyls all over it.

If it didn't stick out like a sore thumb, maybe you wouldn't have been bothered.

It's been a while since I've seen a thread like this on these boards.

Good luck fighting that ticket. Not all cops are dicks, but there are a LOT who embody the stereotype to its fullest. Unfortunately, cops also hold us to a certain stereotype that involves loud paint jobs and graphics.

The only time I got sent to the ref, the cop cited my AFPR. This was cited as a "non-correctable" violation so even though I put the stock FPR back on and had the car checked out by the ref, I still had to pay a $225 fine. Oh wells, I broke the law, it happens. What was similar to your situation though was that the cop gave me some bullshit about the metal pipes after the catalytic converter on my exhaust being CARB approved. I straight up said, "No sir, the ONLY requirement is that the muffler decible level is under 95 decibles." Like you, he ignored me and seemed to get frustrated.

Thomas, who's the smog tech? I remember there being a scan online of a page in some smog handbook that stated intercoolers for oem turbos are legal, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. PM me if necessary.

Actually, no.. You don't have the right to say no to a search... The intercooler and loud exhaust was probable cause - an officer can search any vehicle incident to arrest - as long as the arrest is legal.. In this case the car was obviously modified and the exhaust was obviously loud and illegal at the time.. Same way if an officer finds drugs on your person they can search your vehicle.. Basically if you say no they can impound your vehicle and search it at their leisure.. Look it up..

Basically.. It sucks.. Stockon does a SHITLOAD of modified vehicle enforcement.. Dont ever bother driving through stockton if you are visibly modified.. I've had my own dealings with the state ref thanks to stockton PD.. About the only thing you could do in that situation would be to whip out a camera and shoot video of the officer handing out the ticket, then carefully document your engine compartment.. If you are truely legal you would be able to fight the ticket.. Otherwise the state ref ticket is non-correctable, and no matter what you are going to pay a stiff fine. Usually $500.00 for first offence in san joaquin..

The way the state ref is setup, the officer really doesnt have to know JACK about vehicle modifications.. If it looks modified and doesnt have E.O. stickers, its going to pay a visit to the ref..

If you think that is bad.. Wait untill you hit a mobile smog dyno.. Stockton PD used to set one up outside my office in stockton a couple times a year on quail lakes just before March LN.. Basically they setup kinda like a DUI checkpoint with a line of tow trucks.. But instead of a DUI checkpoint, they had a mobile smog dyno and were flagging certain cars onto it.. Any day they did it they would end up towing off and impounding dozens of vehicles..

Welcome to California.. The "Fcuk You" state to automotive enthusiasts..

I drive a station wagon now and I am quite happy with it.. Actually I got pulled over once already for loud exhaust. I IMMEDIATELY hacked off the stupid ultragay ricer fart can and installed a flat black magnaflow with turndown..

BTW - The mobile smog things are NOT required. You don't have to participate. At least for now anyway.

I dunno.. I used to spend days watching officers (pretty golden entertainment) select vehicles out of traffic and point them over to the dyno.. Almost every vehicle that hit the dyno was towed off... I doubt any of those drivers was given the option of saying "No" or they certainly would have.. The uhm... Type of folk getting the shaft are definitely of the type that would have no problem saying "no" to the pole-lease.

During this time I had both an s13 240 all modded and riced to hell, and a 1g GSX, all modded to hell.. I used to sit on my car in the parking lot eating lunch watching.. I would take those days off as "training days" so I wouldnt have to drive past that shit..
