    Default Does this SBR cast race manifold look new or used? Rust?

    Hey guys,

    I just got a SBR cast race manifold shipped to me from Street Tuned Motorsports. I never actually bought a exhaust manifold before, but it looks used to me. Can you guys tell me what you think? What are those brown spots? Dirt? Rust? Please help me out. Click on the link to see detailed photos. Compare them to the photos that are listed on STM's website of a new manifold.

    Thanks for the replies guys. It rubs off. I had to drive to the DHL facility to pick it up today because they wouldn't deliver it to my place until Friday. Last time I wasn't home and they just left the package outside in front of the door, which is a couple feet away from the street. I seem to be getting bad experiences with DHL and UPS. Lol...I did consider a tubular manifold and after talking to Manny and doing some research it seems they tend to crack. I don't have the big $$$$$ paychecks like you Lee. You guys recommend me put anything on the manifold to protect it? I have a heat shield to go along with it. Was considering going with the FP race manifold, but I want my car to appear stock and that manifold didn't look stock at all. Some people said to say FP stands for "factory part."

    Whatt....????!!! Must have been on Tuuuooooners again :roll: :roll:

    FP = Forced Performance

    ALL cast manifolds will surface rust unless sprayed with Cosmoline

    LOL...they said FP stands for factory part as a joke to the smog technician. They know FP stands for Forced Performance. Where do you buy cosmoline locally?

    The stuff only works before the part is installed once it gets hot the cosmoline burns off.

    Machine shops use in on blocks and heads to keep them from rusting after machining.

    a you can actually watch a freshly bored block start to rust in miniutes

    Cast manifolds own. I'm doing an SBR with SS heat shield on my 95. Tubulars heat up the engine bay like crazy unless you wrap them and many people end up with cracked manifolds if they wrap them on their DDs. Not worth pretty pictures if you ask me.
