    Default FUCKED UP NEIGHBORS

Hey guys I need some advice. My parents called me and told me that they suspect the neighbors that live below their complex has keyed their car. In the past my parents told me that the neighbors have scratched/dented their car when they backed out of their spot. The parking spots are next to each other, and are reserved for the specific apartment number. They suspect it is them because they've argued with them before about stuff and there seems to be a grudge against the neighbor and my parents. I told them to contact the police to file a report at least serve as a deterrent for the neighbors to try to to anything like that again. The issue is there's no solid proof that the neighbors did anything. My parents' car has 6 deep key marks. Three key marks on the side of the car and three near the rear. I want revenge against them even though I know that's not a good thing to do. Any suggestions on what to do? My parents have argued with them before but they just deny everything and just argue back.

Well, I agree with the police report. They could technically check the keys for trace amounts of paint, but that's probably not going to happen. Is the parking spot in view of the apartment? If so, a nice surveillance camera is in order. If it's not, I've seen wireless, solar powered web cams at Frys. Catch them in the act.

Now, onto the good stuff. What kinda car do the neighbors have? Unfortunately, being covered spots, the best thing I could suggest won't work. If the car is left in a sunny place, pieces of bologna left strategically about the car will destroy their paint. keying the car would totally make them suspect you. What about a few roofing nails being left close enough to their tires that when they back over them... I would suggest one or two placed in such a way as to ensure that as soon as the tire rolls towards it, it will puncture. One or two by each tire. The tires won't pop. They just won't hold air very well. If you have access to the gas tank, sugar caramelizes quite well in engines. Pool chlorine (placed in those herbal supplement caplets?) has a nasty reaction with gasoline, but I think that might be a bit extreme, and could cause a major fire. Also, thermite (1 part Al + 1 part Cu) will burn right through their hood, but you need something like magnesium to light it. Again, probably a bit on the extreme side.

So, there's some ideas. Remember though, karma always comes back to bite you in the ass, and it might not seem like it, but they'll get theirs eventually. Personally, I would just ignore the entire second paragraph, get the camera, make the police report, and hope that in the future they're not such pricks (but if they are, the camera will catch them). Then again, if it was my car, I might overreact, and do several of the things listed above before I even thought about what I was doing... the bologna and sugar would be my starting point...

File a police report, that's about all you can do. Unfortunately without a shred of evidence it'll won't mention the neighbors and the police probably won't even question them. You can take matters into your own hands and take revenge but you'd risk being caught breaking the law or bringing further retaliation on your parents property. I'd just let it go.

I'd refrain from doing anything NOW...especailly since you've publicy made intent for revenge off of presumption. Won't look good if someone knows your screen name or you personally :P

But like everyone else said, it would be best to let it go IMO. Sometimes an act of apology on yourself to them (even though it isn't your fault) squashes things, preventing stupid sh!t from becoming out of hand. But I know sometimes it's hard to eat your pride even when you know your in the right.

There is a 90% chance the police will not take report, they will take a statement and file it in case of a future problems. They generally don?t take reports unless there is more than $500+ of damage. The camera idea is great but illegal because you can not have surveillance of a "public" place without posted signs stating that they are being recorded. If you were just walking around with a camera a caught them it would be a different story. You can still do it but if it goes to court even a public defender will get it thrown out. I had a nieghbor with the same prob. and manny is right let it go. You or your parents could try and make an effort to let them know there are no hard feelings with out outright apologizing them. Things can get way out of hand faster than you would think and I am sure you don?t want that.
    Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the advice guys! I thought about the cameras, but as stated by 1g_talon and others putting a camera in a public place is illegal. It just annoys me because my parents car is a 2002 Toyota Corolla with no dents or scrapes before the damage and the car has less than 10,000 miles on the odometer. It was spotless. I'll lend my parents my camera in case anything else happens in the future. Hopefully no other incidents will occur.

Oh, and none of my neighbors know my SN or anything...lol. We'll see what happens. Hope they get what they deserve soon...

You may have surveillance cameras on your premises for recording video only. The apartment situation makes it a little different as you will need permission of the landlord to mount it externally to record. You may however have it inside of your apartment recording outwards. I would check with the apartment manager regrading their policy (if any) of video recording devices.

As for the crime. Go to the local Sheriff/Police service center in the area where the keying occurred and file a report there. Be sure to document the crime by taking photographs of the surrounding area and damage. This way you have further proof if ever going to court. Estimates are useful as well to take to court.

Go on craigslist and post an add for illegal stuff for sale like fire works, drugs, kiddie porn, guns whatever,

then post their phone number and address.

BUT make sure you post the numbers in a spelled out form, i.e.

nine one six - two four zero - four four three three ( that way the add will not be kicked in the personal section)

I did this to my neighbor who screwed me out of $500 on a transmission job,
