Well, aluminum is not as cheap as steel, and TIG welding aluminum is not easy. I don't think $600 is too far fetched.

As far as how that happened, its just stress over time. I busted the welds on my Venom intake mani, but they fixed it even stronger than it was and 2nd day'd it back to me for free. Aluminum is weak, and even 20psi over an area that large stacks up. However mine did not blow up like that at all!
