So, here I am, it's 5 o'clock, and I'm heading down Folsom-Auburn into folsom to go towards work (I go through folsom, hit white rock into eldorado hills, miss most of the hywy 50 parking lot) I turn onto Folsom from Eureeka, and give the gas a quick blip to get up to speed... no problem, then about a mile down the road I hear a nice loud clunk and my car starts tacking... I let off the gas, and it's coasting okay, and idling fine, but the speed of the car, and the rpms of the motor seem oddly out of sync... hmm.... so I pull it over, and check the tranny fluid (it's an auto) to see if it's low... nope... seems just fine... so I turn off the car to look things over... and when I go to start it back up I discover that the starter's cranking, the flexplate is spinning... but the motor's not turning.... soo... if you happen to see the white car that looks like a starion over on the side of the road on folsom, that'd be mine... hopefully I'll be able to go pick it up in the morning and take it up the hill to the 'rents house to pull the motor and trans and see why this flexplate broke... when I got it the flexplate was broke, but since there were no keys or front seats when I got it ($200 for a turbo car that just needs seats and keys seemed like a good deal...) I was unaware of the broken flexplate til I got it keyed.... BAH.... just venting mostly... but I don't suppose anybody knows what would cause this other than the usual suspects (rockford turns, neutral dumps, reverse-drive dumps....as I am the only one that's driven it since the new plate and I've done none of the above)
I haven't even really driven this car hard yet, as it is still in the "working the bugs out" stage... also, this flexplate has 510 miles on it according to my tripometer which was reset when I dropped the tranny back in... so there's NO reason it should have broke (and it was a brand new from Napa part)
