Default Oil in the "hot side" ICP... Yay!

Well I think it is spelling the doom, the end of the TO4B... The last piece that links this car to its previous owners mechanically. Everything else is new to the car: The engine, tranny, head, radiator, axel(s) etc all gone.

Anyone know the pricing on seal replacement for turbos? If its not too much I'll be willing to have it changed, if not its time for a downgrade to a E316G or a upgrade to a TO4E.

Money pit indeed. The body work is all done but now the paint is on hold.

i know you specified hot side on the intercooler piping.. But by chance is your breather from the head hooked up to the intake? If it is.. Oil in the intercooler piping is completely normal! :)

Well its odd... I went back and took all the piping off and other than the corner piece the entire piping on the hot side is bone dry. The turbo itself is running flawless and ZERO shaft play. My cooler lines are ran on top of that pipe and maybe some leaked through who knows. But I'm gunna drive it for a while then check it again.

On another note, got a date set up for my paint day.. finally...

Turbo is probably fine.. You would have noticed blue smoke in your exhaust if that thing was pissing..

But if your breather from the valvecover is connected to your intake pipe you WILL get oil in the pipes as time goes on.. But usually a dead seal in a turbo = smoke

If you had oil on the hot side of your i/c piping, you'd have in-out shaft play like no other. If that checks out ok, I doubt the turbo is on i's way out. Oil on the hot side could also mean your turbo isn't draining oil fast enough. So there could be something blocking the oil drain line's path (crooked gasket, too much rtv blocking the hole, shavings cluttering up the pan hole, etc etc). If you notice it more and more often, I would definetly remove your oil return line. They are AN lines so it should take you long to inspect.

Yeah thanks manny, that was my exact thoughts. I checked the turbo and that thing is damn near perfect. I swear it doesn't flinch in any direction at all...

No smoke, no nothin. It should be fine.

    Thanks everyone.
