Default Passed TEST-ONLY Smog Again in the 2g GST :)

    6bolt
    1g intake mani
    SBR exh mani
    Evo16g
    Safc
    Pocketlogger
    Act2600

    :)

Passed at a Test-Only station with flying colors and didn't have to pay anyone an assload! $45 bucks later I have my stickers.

This is the 3rd car I've passed with an engine swap or with mods. The others were my old 6bolt 2g, and my old 1g awd with cams. Just posting it for neigh-sayers. It's definetly possible to pass a swap in CA without a smog-hookup. You just gotta know how ;) Next project: AWD the gs-t with a VCE. Come smog time, I can then just drop the driveshaft! WOO!

congrats manny! i wonder if the smog REF would bch about a 6bolt swap even if everything else was correct. i still have a 7bolt but i passed the ref with an evo3 16g, FMIC + piping, 1g bov, denso 190, and some gauges (boost, egt, and voltmeter.. i know cops like to talk about how illegal gauges of any sort are).

has anyone gone to a smog REF with a 6bolt swap before?

More importantly than what the secret is, where did you go for the test? I'm coming up on my smog certificate renewal and have been looking for the "right" place to take the car to.

I just went to some place out in rancho cordova, no where specific. Apparently most smog shops are test only, but it didn't matter, it still passed well below max levels. Sorry, I have no 'right' place.

There's no secret to it really. Here's what I did: Stock turboback, CAM at 5? +-2, RPM at 750 +-150, all vaccum lines hooked up, and more importantly, tune the car for 0 +-10 LTFT and STFT. If your EGR is working well and you don't have idle surge with this setup, theres no reason why you can't pass on the rollers. It's even possible to pass with injector and fuel pump upgrades, but it just takes longer to get the 0 LTFT and STFT.

As far as the REF and 6bolt, theres no way for him to tell what the shortblock is unless he removes the turbo or o2 housing. Even then, the 6 and 7 bolt both say "4G63", its the code under neath it that would determine what gen it would have came out of. So if you have to go to a REF, my suggestion would be to put on a 2g intake mani so that you can place the map sensor in it's stock place. Paint the 1g CAM sensor black to make it look similar to the 97-99 static CAM sensor. Tune and you should be good to go with all your vaccum lines hooked properly. Also be sure to use your 2g TB.

Good advice on tuning for 0 (or 100%) at idle and low rev. And get a new cat! Good job Manny!

a good tune up would also be a good idea, and run brp6es plugs also since they run hotter.

Put how do you pass with the 16g? Don't they notice the different pipe plumbing?

I just got mine smogged a couple of months ago, and took everything off except my Profec B, which he didn't notice. He did notice the fuel filter I have in from the valve cover to the intake though. It was a friend of mines friend but he did notice it, so I'm assuming if I had left all my hard piping on I would have been up shit creek. Just wondering if you take this stuff off or not? I'm currently painting everything black cause I want to try to pass without taking all the crap off.
