I think part of it is that so many DSMers are broke. It's hard to justify spending $350 on parts for my timing belt (water pump, belt, all tensioner, etc) when I have to figure out how to make $20 last 2 weeks for food. Course, for me, that just means my eclipse sits, cause I won't be a victim of the $1000 timing belt (yanno, new head, gasket, plus all the other stuff mentioned above)

But that's my opinion, not that they're cheap, just broke, and under the false belief that they can do it cheap "for now" and it'll be fine. *shrugs*

they heard somewhere that you can make dsm's fast for cheap. so they go into the project not planning on spending any money and having a 10 sec car.

both of these are probly true. i cannot see me ever puting a cheap part on my car. also knowing that it will just fail later then ill have to be towed home. that thought bugs me. this is why i try and give you guys really awsome deals on good parts. i will never sell anyone a cheap part.

    you all have NO idea....

The DSM's can go fast for cheap was true back in the mid to late 90's when the cars were still in good stock condition,

the cars these days need $$$$$ just to get back to the good running stock lever BEFORE the parts start going on.

Cheap DSM'ers have slow cars, that pretty much sums it up.

There is NO reason any 16g powered DSM should not be in the land of the 12's with the right simple mods,

some of you guys spend crazy money on these MAFT's /datalogging stuff/ on a 14 second car.........why?????

Get the car running good, do the exhaust, put a boost gauge on it, put a fuel pump in it, put a boost controller on it, and a decent clutch and you will be in the low 13's through a stock i/c , turbo AND MAS!!!!

It's either one extreme or the other. People who swear by "free mods" (hack jobs), skipping fixes or maintence because their butt dyno can't feel it, or general cheap skates. Or people who swear by the most expensive, designer part availible from the biggest name in the import magazines. Both are equally pathetic.
