    Default Variable Valve timing...

nope, not talking about MIVEC either....

I've been lusting after a MIVEC system since I discovered it... I'm even in the process of trying to get a 4g92 DOHC MIVEC head imported to build a hybrid 4g92/4g93 to try and shoehorn into my eclipse... but I may have just found a solution that would alleviate needing to do ANY of that... I've heard talk of hydraulic valves in the past, but never thought much of it until recently... then I happened apon this company that has developed the system with nasa.

    http://www.sturmanindustries.com/mai...eActuation.htm

Sturman is the industry leader in Hydraulic Valve Actuation (HVA) systems. Sturman Industries developed our first HVA system in 1996. HVA eliminates the mechanical linkage between the engine valves and the crankshaft and allows for fully flexible engine valve operation. ?Camless? operation opens the door to improved engine power, efficiency, and emissions. We have systems ranging from the simplest open loop single-lift system to the most advanced closed loop systems with variable timing, lift and valve profiles.

In 2000, we drove one of our Camless vehicles to the top of Pikes Peak. In the same year, we took a Camless vehicle on a 10,000 mile U.S. tour. We have operated vehicles from a Camless VW Jetta to a Camless International semi-truck and have run our systems up to 15,000 rpm frequency.
I e-mailed them already... if they've put this system in a jetta, then there's no reason they can't put it in an eclipse... can you just imagine having your laptop with DSMLink hooked up, AND this valve system... you could dyno tune all kinds of profiles for different horsepower and torque requirements based on your needs.... have a drag profile, a fuel economy profile, a street racing profile, autocross, rally.... whatever you want to do with your DSM...

I don't know what would be required to put this on a car, if it's something that sits in place of the valvespring assembly, or what, but I've inquired for more information and availability... maybe it's something easiely adaptable... *crosses fingers* it would make my job a lot easier, and I wouldn't have to build my hybrid motor that isn't even supposed to go in an eclipse...

... can you tell I'm a bit excited by the new tech?

Ive heard of this with electric solenoids that actuate the valves. Sounds expensive.

I don't think it's that complicated... I mean, instead of having to fiddle with your timing on your cam gears, you would have a laptop setup that can adjust your valve timing, your lift height, duration.... and you can program it to have different timing, lift and duration based on RPM...

I think it would take me a couple days on a Dyno to get it all fine tuned, but once I had my profiles setup....
