    Default 100 Octane

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if it's safe to use 100 octane gas on a stock Evo? Will it give me more power or what?

Higher octane by itself does not equal more power. It can be used to 'make' power, but you need to tune accordingly. Higher octane causes a later burn. A later burn can give you a colder burn, allowing you to run hotter intake temps then normal, putting off knock. Hotter intake temps can come from power-alterations such as boost increase or timing advance. But by itself, no it won't help you.

So I would have to tune it? Or set the boost higher?

    Thanks manny!

Actually it will make a bit more power in terms that the ecu will see "less" knock or "pre ignition" and will add more timing thus making a bit more power and better throttoe response

and your car will love you for not running 91 piss gas

I'm not 100% sure on your EVO, but most cars have a CA counterpart, where the ECU and engine recieve additional alterations to downtune or 'dumbify' the engine in favor of emmissions. And if so, I'm pretty sure your ecu's mapping is geared for crapass CA 91 octane. You shouldn't see much if any ping on your stock setup. You're better off running a colder sparkplug if you just want to get a better burn and rid yourself of possible ping. If you put in 100 octane and your car suddenly works alot better, I would definetly be concerned.

There's no real way of telling you for sure if running 100 octane will actually get you better power/throttle response without some form of monitor, sans just tossing it in your car to see the outcome and using the buttdyno. You can do that, but I would highly recommend against tossing it in and upping the boost blindly, especially with how high in psi the stock evo comes with. Someone on here should have an OBD2 logger you could borrow to check your results and learn a bit about how tuning works.

Yes.....FYI - Mitsuibishi will ask you what fuel you are running if any engine codes pop up and you bring it to the dealer for warranty work.
