Default What was your first enthusiests car?

I'm curious about how people ended up with DSMs? Did you have Hondas before? Hot rods? Old school or new?

Personally, I had a couple CRXs in high school with B16 swaps. They ran ~102mph in the quarter and ran high 12s on 555s on pump gas. Only reason they did was becase they were paper weights at 1900 lbs. I got tired of the tin can and sold them to move on to a comfterable, "nice" car. Nicer than that generations of Hondas isn't hard lol. Ended up with my Spyder after I bought it for my wife while I was in the .mil and it irritated her knees to drive a manual because of prior surgeries. It was a hand me down after I was discharged and it turned into a habbit.

My first car is/was a 1977 AMC Hornet AMX. 2200lb car with a 304ci V8. I blew the tranny when I was 19, and I found a turbo400 out of a '74 jeep wagoneer. I've since put a Dakota Digital Guage Cluster, completely rewired with a painless wiring harness, added a hurst v-matic2 shifter, dropped a 360ci V8 out of another wagoneer with brand new valves, and now it sits waiting for me to finish it. Needs exhaust installed, I need a dipstick for the tranny and another for the oil, and some tlc on the body (no dents, just paint, it's half primer). Hopefully I'll get it done eventually, but it's just not high priority right now... guess I have too many projects... but it starts and sorta idles (has a problem idling below 1500 rpms... probably due to a bunch of old vacuum lines and such) I just start it up and listen to it run for a few minutes every couple months...

Then there's the moneypit (GSX). I "bought" my first DSM from John L. Sullivan used. It was a 97 spyder gs-t. I fell in love instantly, and bought it for 9,500 in 2001. I drove it off the lot, and drove the hell out of it for 3 weeks (2200 miles to be exact) and got a phonecall from good ol' John L.'s finance manager. Apparently the loan they guaranteed me was not happening, and the car needed to go back... soooo, I took it back and have been lusting for one ever since... started doing my research and finally found the deal I have sitting in the yard now. I got it in January of '04 and have been working on getting it going since.

1987 Plymouth Grand Voyager, sky-blue with wood panels on the sides. it was the family car that was handed over to me as an excuse for my dad to drive something better. during high school, i put on 17 inch wheels and flowmaster exhaust with dual pipes out the back. my first year in college, i put air-bag suspension on in and changed the exhaust to dual side-exit pipes. cool as hell but the ride quality went to sh!t. i ended up parting with it when a median jumped out in front of me successfully ripping out my suspension, oil pan, and exhaust. i still miss my van (and the good times raising and lowering it in fast food drive thrus), but i would NEVER put air-bags on anything ever again unless i never drove it. i now drive a 73 Dodge Charger that me and my dad got running shortly after the van was totalled. 360ci/380hp Mopar crate engine was swapped in coupled to a TCI Torqueflite 727 tranny.

why am i on sac-dsm? the "whiteautogsx" is technically my sister's car. i just couldn't keep myself away from it. :D

1967 volkswagon bug. stock 1600cc motor, stock int. lowered it on porsche wheels. i was 15 and i was driving it to school. so even though it was a bug i was still cool cuz i was the only sophmore in HS driving. lol then i got a 81' toyota truck with 7" lift on 35's. had a gear set and lockers front and rear. i loved that damn truck. should have never sold it. then i went on to own 17 more vehicles.

sweet, what color was it? i might have seen you around. mine was an original SE with a 400ci big block. after realizing the 400 felt weaker than the motor in my minivan, in went the crate engine that my dad had been saving for his 'cuda (he decided to keep it all original). i drive it a lot so look out for me, its a dark orange color with black vinyl top and black hood.
