    Default SMOG

lol Smog'ed my car today. I wasn't required to go to a test only.. but I thought it would be entertaining :) . Very easily passed but damn they checked every vacuum line in the car. Took the flashlight and followed every single hose haha. Even behind the block. But I do have the 14b and the 1G bov on it and no problems what so ever :) So I would assume if you had a Evo3/B16G you'd be a-ok on a 2G!

I sold it, but the FMIC should be fine. it shouldnt effect emissions. there is a document that someone posted about how smog ref's are suppose to overlook the intercooler or something like that. I will see if i can find that. :)

I remember that, it was something about an intercooler being an intercooler and it didn't matter what kind or style you swapped on there as long as the car came with one originally from the factory. That would be nice if that's how it worked! One less thing for you guys to worry about.

IC's according the CHP are legal as long as they came with the car, or are upgraded, as long as the upper pipe is not metal and it uses all your stock piping. that's what the cop told me anyways.

As long as the upper pipe isn't metal? I don't think I can use a FMIC with the stock pipes... I'm going to make mine all Matte black anyway. How about GM MAF? is that going to make my car impossible to smog?

yes the GM MAF will make your car impossible to SMOG. especially venting to the atmosphere. thats an automatic fail.

2 write ups I found online:

"Appendix K, Category I". It contains "the list" of specific items that DO NOT REQUIRE AN EXEMPTION-ORDER NUMBER! The item "intercooler" is the tenth of this list. The addition of an intercooler is listed as an exceptable (translation "technician can choose to ignore") add-on item to a vehicle factory-equiped with a turbocharger. Thusly, any! intercooler can legally be installed on these cars as per above.

    BUT someone else said

I have the latest Smog Check Inspection manual (revision 6).
And it does mention intercoolers for OEM turbo chargers as an item
not of concern as long as the required emssion controls are connected
and functioning correctly. However, it only mentions OEM intercoolers.

So go figure. I can't find the scan of the page!
