    Default Another good'o smog thread...

    Hi guys, new here, need some help, I am really desperate now...

    I have failed smog for the 5th time already, always high HC at idle. I am really piss that I have to pay $40 each time just to know I failed. car is stock, and I am just wondering, any place that will let me use the machine or help me smog while I am playing around with the car to find out why it has high HC.

    btw, I don't work for BAR, I am not part of any sting, I won't fine you, I don't need hook up to guarentee passing, I need to pass at a test only center anyways. all I am asking is not paying $40 each time when I change a little thing, and end up failing again and again. I have tried everything I can think of, I really don't want to pull the whole engine out and replace everything just to pass smog, but that might be my only option... please please, help.

    If your really stock replace O2 sensor.. or replace the cat..

    Its REALLLY hard to make a DSM fail smog if its running anywhere near right..

    Ive seen cars spitting SMOKE from being soo rich and still passing..

    well it's wasn't anywhere near stock at all, but because I failed smog first couple time, I took everythnig off except fuel pump, turbo, and FMIC, reprogram my chip to running a bit leaner and all fuel trim very close to 100. also brand new denso o2 sensor, new oil filter, oil change, all new plugs, wires... that's why I said I am totally stumped, althought I haven't change out the CAT yet.... that's another $100+ plus another $40 to check if I pass or not.... I really don't want to take another chance. and I have seen ppl pass even without CAT, although won't pass visual of course. so right now I am suspecting my ignition system which I may be misfiring, I really don't know.

    I've never heard of anyone passing without a cat. Good luck.

    Well your cat is probably toast.. That would be a good place to start..

    I had a small crack in my N1 and didn't pass....welded it up and I was fine. $10 it's some piece of your exhaust that is causing you to fail.
    I'm the first person to do a 180 in mid air at RPM.

    NO CAR WILL PASS SMOG WITHOUT A CAT, an engine cannot burn the co's to the low level that the sniffer needs to see

    if your HC's are high change the o2 sensor
    if your Co's are high change the cat
    if your NOx is high put plugs in it or adjust your timing

    ive passed with a 255 and no afpr.
