I was driving eastbound on Twin Cities road, just minding my own business. I was headed home from school in Elk Grove.
All of a sudden, I see some lights flashing on the left side of the road, in the Consumnes River. As I get closer, I realzed that it was a car, flipped over in the water. Right away, I pull over and park in the shoulder and take my money, spare change, credit cards and other stuff outta my pockets, and take off my t-shirt....I had seen this situation before(4 times).
I run down the embankment, and the car is almost entirely under water. I grabbed on to some branches that were surrounding the car and slowly walk into the cold water of the river. I started yelling "is there anyone in the car" and the lady said, "yea, I'm trapped in here". I asked her if there was anyone else in the car. She yelled, "no, just me"
The water was cold, brown, murky, smelly and did I mention cold? I went into the water up to my chest and found her car's door handle and tried to open it. The driver's door couldnt open. Luckily, the lady's head was in an air pocket and she was able to breathe. I opened the back drivers side door and the car was almost completely full of water and upside down as well. I went in to the water, and managed to recline her drivers side seat back somehow. Her back was kind of pinned into the steering wheel, and I could slowly feel the car slidding more and more into the river. I knew I had to yank this lady out fast. By this time, more people had stopped to help and they called 911.
I managed to get a grip of the ladies hand and pull her out through the rear drivers side door. She slithered out and held on to me for dear life. I carried her through all the water, mud, branches, rocks and up the steep embankment on the shoulder of the road and the ladies car just slid in to the river, completely inundated with water. The tires bearly above water. 10 minutes later,Galt and Elk grove fire department, CHP and sheriffs dept get there. They cut off all of her clothes, cover her with blankets, strap her down to this blue plastic board, and throw her in an ambulance and take off with her.
I take off my jordans and socks, completely wet and walk over to my talon barefoot and get in. A sheriff, CHP and Fire dept guy all walk up to me, thank me for my efforts and take my information down.
I took off, got home, and took a warm shower. My shins are all scraped and cut up.
I just wanted you guys to know about my day.
