    Default Murder Charge???????

I can understand throwing the book at this kid but Murder? I think this is a little extreme. Please just comment on this case and not the overall state, government, cops, etc.....

Man Charged With Murder After Deadly Street Race

(CBS 13) SACRAMENTO It's a rare move by Sacramento County Prosecutors, they're charging a man with murder after a deadly street race. It happened last week as two cars raced down a street in Citrus Heights.

On Thursday, February 2, Sheriff's Deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of Aubrun Boulevard and San Thomas for a report of a single vehicle collision.

Investigators say a 1987 white Ford Mustang and a 1988 red Honda CRX were traveling at a high rate of speed on Auburn when the Ford Mustang collided into a tree. The mustang was occupied by two, a 25-year-old male driver who was killed on impact and a 17-year-old male passenger who was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with severe internal injuries.

Several witnesses say the red Honda CRX left the area after the collision. Many of those witnesses were able to lead deputies to the vehicle which was located in a parking lot at Antelope Road and Sunrise Boulevard.
According to Detectives, the driver of the red Honda CRX, Jason Golson 22, left scene of the crash without assisting in aiding the victims inside the Ford Mustang. According to witnesses the Ford Mustang and Honda CRX were racing when the collision occurred.

Jason Golson was arrested for Murder in the Second Degree. He is being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail

See, I'd have to disagree with this. What if the Mustang instigated the race? I mean, it's not solely the CRX's fault that the Mustang lost control and crashed into a tree. This shit happened right around the corner from my apartment, crazy.

I don't think they should charge the kid with murder.......When i say throw the book at him.....give him the maximum charge within reason. A murder charge is not reasonable.

I'm with Kach. If you do something like this and get caught, time to pay up for your crime. Murder is rediculous though. I don't think they'll get away with it in court.

He's being charged with 2nd degree murder.... which means that it's "murder, without intent to kill". So, it's not like he's the trigger man of a driveby, but still, a rap sheet with any degree of murder is bad news. Then, "Leaving the Scene of an Fatal Accident" will not help him either.

It's an unfortunate situation, but he raced and now he has to do the time. Things would have turned out much differently if he just said, "nah, I ain't gonna mess wit dis fool" and left it alone.

I think murder charge is dumb. Imagine if you were toying with someone in any slight way (which the police would consider racing) and were doing 10 over on the freeway and the dumbass you are racing wrecks his car and people die? Was it your fault he wrecked? no. No one made the Mustang driver race. He CHOSE to race, and wrecked and died because of it. CRX driver should be charged with street racing, reckless driving etc, but not murder. Leaving the scene of a fatal accident may apply also, depending how it all went down the CRX might be able to weasel out of it maybe? Unfortunate either way though...

Seems like it may get off free and clear. They can't charge him for murder, get a not guilty verdict, and then try charging him with another crime for the same offence. Double jeopardy. Good 'ol "justice" system in action.

wow... if i made the choice to run from a fatal accident, i would have gotten out of the f*cking city or at least ditched anyone who was following me and gone home. he decided to post in an open parking lot in the same area... smart guy. i still dont think murder should have been thrown at him, but three counts of stupidity (racing, running away, staying in the area) will get anyone caught up.

It'll be interesting what the outcome is......any decent lawyer should be able to defend it and get a big reduction in the charge. I wonder if the kid has the public defender or if someone is helping out with a private lawyer.
