Default Insane Idea of the Month

Ok its time for Seth's insane idea of the month.

I'm upgrading to a FMIC with short route piping. This got me to thinking wouldent it be nice if I could relocate my AC condenser to the stock SMIC location and upgrade flow and cooling. Does anyone have the experience with A/C systems to help me with this?

Im thinking ill need: New fittings and hose, mounting brackets, possibly a smaller condenser. (ueable SMIC area is 9 1/2"Wide x 9"High x 4"Thk)

So anyone want to shoot holes in my idea? :)

You would need a much smaller condensor. Like less then half the size of the stock one. I dont think the a/c would work too well with that small of a condensor.

Dont think the ac would work at all with that small of a condensor.. It needs a certain amuont of space for the gas to condense (for cooling)..

Yah i was running into the same issue with the physics of it. The solution that I am working with now is that the condenser is not thick at all so it could be mounted diagonally with a high flow fan on the back of it.

Worst case I explode 100 dollars worth of AC parts I got from Lee and put back the old one.

Ill have to check fitament when I get it on a lift. With a secure dam even mounted horizontally the condenser would get more flow then between the fluidyne and the FMIC. Thats the theory at least. Wont know till I try :)

Actually, Vintage Air makes a small remote mount condensor about the size of a stock side mount with an electric fan attatched. Used for Hot Rod guys who like to hide all that stuff. Not sure how well it actually works, but its out there. ~$250 if I remember correctly

so i'm not understanding what you're trying to get flow to? are you wanting to flow more air to your radiator or your A/C condensor?

:FMIC - Condenser - Radiator: is standard flow with the SMIC location holing the IC pipes

I am going short route so that area will be free.

What im looking to do is get the A/C condenser in the side mount location to free up flow through the FMIC and Radiator.

why don't you put some ducting to blow air back there? i have a short route SBR fmic...

it's less money to have to spend and plus it works. get a set of slim line fans also with a high CFM rate.
