Default Different Brands Better Than Others ?

Hows it goin guys? Well I had a few questions.... Is there a difference between an ebay intake or an Injen/Dejontool intake with the exception of a CARB number ? Any performance difference or is it all the same? Also, I was thinkin about buyin an ebay muffler and then going to Marco Muffler and getting 2.5" or 3" catback piping? Have any of you gone that route or do u guys buy brand name catbacks ? If you guys could get back to me, thatd be great, Thanks. pCe

In the case of both the intake and the exhaust. To me they both are just pipes. And different ones are going to have a very minimal effect on power. Also different exhaust of course are going to sound different.

I say get an intake like an Injen knockoff (the knockoffs are exactly the same without the Injen stamp on them), and do just what you were thinking with the exhaust. I dont think muffler shop exhausts sound as good as say a Greddy. But it gets the job done and thats what counts.

I would agree. Intakes and exhaust's are all the same, you are only paying for the name. The ebay injen knock-offs do lack the quality of its higher priced counterpart, but again, its just a pipe...Most of the time the higher priced name brand products do fit a little better than the knock-offs and some of them are street legal (injen, greddy to name a few). If you want to stay "street legal" then look for something with a CARB number....

also, when doing your exhaust, it's always best to get mandrel bent if you want the most gains from the piping. press bent has creases in the piping that cause restrictions in the air flow.

i personally run a thermal RnD 3" system. very nice exhaust for a pretty decent price also. i picked mine up a long time ago for $500.

Ditto.I got my complete cat-back for 200 bucks, bought a nice muffler for 50 bucks, and a cat back cost me about, 150 at muffler tech. While it was pressbent, treir press bent doesn't cause deep depresions in the piping like the traditional presses.Mandrel bent exhasut are better, but mine works fine for me.I'm not building a race car,ya know what i mean...

CARB legal and DSM's don't go hand in hand. The only CARB legal parts I know of are the HKS Intake. The K & N Filter and the GReddy $3,000 rip off turbo kit with an 18g :) Even the Injen intake's for 2g's are not CARB exempt.

Thanks for all the replys. As far as the catback piping goes, Marco Muffler gave me the cheapest estimate at $125 for 2.5" and $160 for 3". Now I just need to decide what diameter I want. Any suggestions ? Also, how many of you run High Flow Cats? Would you suggest one? Thanks again for all the replys and hope to hear some more soon. pCe

well you have to look into what you want to do with your car. most people will say 2.5" is just fine on the street. i say go 3", because you're more than likely going to upgrade.

it's proven that the 3" flows better and will increase HP more than the 2.5". they did a test at prostreet with equally skilled drivers and 2 bone stock DSM's.
stock for stock the cars were pretty much dead even. adding the 2.5" on one car and a 3" on the other, the vehicle with the 3" piping took the other one by 2 cars.

but like i said, depends on what you want to do with the car. high flow cats are good, because your stock cat won't mate up to a true 3" exhaust without necking down the catback, and plus as the name states, they flow more. just be concious about the whole smog thing if you have to smog.

i'm going to be running straight pipe on a full 3" system because i don't have to smog anymore.
