    Default HEAD GASKET

    i am in middle of puting my engine back together any info on what head gasket to go with
    new set up 2.3l Stroker and Gt35r

    cometic. it can hold 40psi and it's multi layered. make sure your block surface is smooth.

    Or mitsu metal head gasket. Probably about $10 cheaper and no difference.

    additional comment from the newb gallery!

    Be positive you get the metal gasket on right the first time you tourque down. If you have to open it back up you have to go to the store and get a new one. You cant re-torque them.

    Only mentioned because this is information everyone asumes everyone else knows :)

    Actually... I called Apex about their steel head gaskets, since I will be pulling the engine in my 240 appart again.
    They said their gaskets ARE reusable just as long as the black coating is still perfect, with no bubbles or scraches.
    Makes sense, steel does not compress like the stock composite gaskets.

    I'm only familiar with the mitsu metal gasket where thats a nono.

    yea the Apex and HK$ steel gaskets are quite a bit different than the Cometic stuff.

    Including the price! :shock: But hell, if you can use them more than once, that makes up for the price pretty quick.

    One other thing manny people forget to do when installing steel headgaskets is to spray them with copper spray gasket sealant, this will make sure you dont have any small coolant or oil leaks.
