Default Who's removed piston and rods with the engine still in car?

I may be planning on getting forged stock bore pistons for the 1g, but want them on my stock rods since I don't plan on making much more power then where I'm already at. Can I just remove the rod from the crank (without removing the crank) and pop them up through the head side? Seems like it would be easy to do it this way. Also, who here has honed before? I plan on getting the 85 bit and trying it myself since the new pistons will come with fresh rings, but I can't find a procedure online on how to do this. Any tips welcome.

my uncle did this before with a 7m engine, but i don't recomend it.As far as the honing goes,i would also leave that to a machine shop since they have the proper measuring equipment to see how far they hone.Goig a little over the edge on the DIY mods manny? :P

the thing about that is, even though it says its for a stock bore it could be slightly off. your machine shop would catch this if you took it there. other than that its totally possible seeings how i did that same thing about 5 years ago in my first awd. if you do it just make sure you put some good covers on your rod bolts so you dont nick the crank. spend the money on the good three arm hone too. the ball hones suck ass. good luck.

If you have the head off it would be just as easy to pull the entire engine first,

Yea any shop will put a nice 60 degree hatch and set your piston to cyl. wall spec for around 80-100 bucks they should also set your ring gap too,
I am doing this very same thing right now on the 240 with a nice set of Ross slugs, most aftermarket pistons come with floating pins so you can assemble them at home, but you will need the factory ones pressed off first and the small end of the rod brushed honed.
