One of the last DSM's that is properly worked on.
hmm... you done need a JDM Evo 3 tranny lol.
just send yours off and get it rebuilt.
a evo 3 5th gear is(i forgot how much exactly) longer, a evo3 1'st gear is 11% longer and a evo 3 3rd gear is shorter (closer ratio)
you have the option to just add those gears if you want when it gets rebuilt. and a rebuilt one will have a 4 spider center diff(2g tranny weak link). so its alot stronger.
Methanol Injected, HX35 Powered, 95 GSX
Just get a rebuild.
I like Jacks he is a cool guy. TRE does great work but you can expect long wait times and slow responces on progress.

Evo 3 transmissions have a different final drive than DSM trannies.
It's different even from the galant VR-4's..
Last Evo 3 tranny I worked on we ended up pulling the gearset out of it and building it all hybridized into a 1g case with the proper spline output shaft for the t-case and the front diff from the 1g..
The front diff from the Evo 3 tranny was open and geared differently than the 1g.. So if you put an evo 3 trans in a dsm you wont get past your driveway before you break something unless you get the final drive matched up between front and rear..
The only place local where I have found them is Venus auto.. If they are still around.. And they dont usually like to sell them.. Usually they try to keep them together with the motorset.. No matter what way you slice it you cant really use the whole tranny.. Output shaft will be different and the final drive on the front diff is different.. Like i said, you can pull the gearset out and slap that into a 1g tranny at least.. Just make sure you measure preload and shim properly..
You will also be left with a center diff core you can use to have yours rebuilt into a 4 spider... If you do that, make sure to pick up a new VLSD coupler for they center.. they are ALWAYS fried on DSM's.. ALWAYS.. Every last time.. If a previous owner has let their tire pressures even drift more than a certain amount from to rear that vlsd just cooks over time (not to mention the morons that drive around AWD cars with mis-matched tires.. Bye bye VLSD center.).. TRE used to sell them off of new cores they built for like 30 bux a pop..
A budget rebuild for you would definitely be a evo3 gearset, send your extra center diff off for the 4 spider re-work, and have them ship it back with a new VLSD coupler.
