since I no longer work on DSM's or "Hacked" EVO's

    Someone help this guy...

Here is a PM I was sent

hey john this fong i was woundering if u aint busy this week if not can u help us find a problem on a evo we just pick up its a evo 8 we bought the car with some upgrades it came with a gt35r turbo or something it boost pertty good like around 18psi run good in till we install the Ku motor sport sheet metal intake manifold the car cant boost over 12psi nomore and it hella turbo lag we get full boost at 6000rpm to 7000 rpm we did everything cant seem to find the problem if its cool with u can i bring the car for u to check it out sometime this week? we pay u if u fix the problem give me a call 1-916 509 ask for Fong thanks for your time

On a side note, I see the EVO owners going the same way as the DSM guys, just throwign parts at a car thinking it will go fast or buying cheap parts i.e. OBX or SS auto chrome,

a Sheetmetal intake!!?? what kind of power did the car make before you installed that stuff??
Check your line to your boost gauge make sure its not hooked up to the wrong side of a solonoid.

For you to "Need" to install a intake manifold like that you should be making 600+ whp with the stock manifold
before it starts to become a bottle neck,

Also with a sheetmetal intake they are HIGH end power makers only, your low end is going to be horrible!!

if you look at all the other high HP EVO dyno numbers they ALL make LESS than 200lbft of torque below 5000 rpm,

That is NOT streetable I don't care what anyone says.

Here is my real 2 cents,

Take all that crap off, leave on the exhaust, air intake, gauges, do a nice reflash, and weld the hood shut with only a hole to

    check and change the oil.

Evo's are falling into the same path as DSM's. Everyone knows them as unrelyable, non-moving from the garage, money pits. With prices falling fast on Evo 8's (I've seen them go for 11k), we all know where this is going. That's ok though, it'll make buy/modding them for real tuners alot cheaper :)

Fong, pressure test your intake system, though a sheet metal WILL cause fat lag. Sheet metal intake + big compressor housing and non-baller bearing = full boost at redline.

Falling prices sound good to me! lol...just think of it this way...bad reputation for DSMs means people will stay away from buying DSMs, so more DSMs for us!

There are no more DSMs being produced! lol...anyways, I highly doubt Evo's will go down the same path at least not anytime soon. There's always some people that do half ass jobs on cars no matter what make or model the car is.

I think the car has issues if it's really getting full bost 2k from red line. BUT, I also think you should go back to the stock manifold until the car is spinning the tires into 3rd gear.
