    Default HKS BOV

Hey guys. I need some advise. I wanna get HKS SSQV but I'm lil bit confused. There is a new version of that bov on the market. Does anyone know anything about that new HKS, for example how does it sound compared to the previous version. Which one would you preffer? THANKS

yo it sounds the same and still has 2 diaphrams in it one for low and one for high. if your not pushin about 25psi or higher id stick with the greddy type RS. this thing has a psssshh but after that it sounds like someone killing 6 birds under your hood. or you get the traditional squeal of the SSQ

just make sure you dont vent it to atmosphere, and recirculate it....of course your "psssshh" wont be so loud, but dammit, its better for your engine. so i hope your changing your bov for the right reason. i know down the road, im getting this hks ssqv.

I don't see where he posted if he's running a GM MAF or not, in which case venting won't have the rich side effects between shifts. I had this on my STI swap, and it sounds 'alright'. I personally like the type-s if your recirculating...call me old fashion :)

Actually, I've been running an HKS SSQV vented to atmosphere for many years, both with a stock MAF and with the GM MAF-Translator in blow thru.

It's not really better for your engine to recirculate it, unless you want all that hot air from your turbo going back in to your intake and becoming even hotter air. I noticed no ill effects and gas mileage stayed the same, as long as I'm not under boost, then gas mileage goes down no matter what.

When rice is less important than horsepower, then you'll understand lol. Venting should only be done in a blow thru setup. It's not just 'hot air' ...it's called metered air.

exactly metered air. dont be too suprised if your engine light goes on after a while either.

He'll tell you it runs perfect no matter what you say. In my opinion, he just doesn't understand engine managment systems. Just ignore those posts, they pop up at least once a month.

I have a GM MAF-Translator in blow thru, thank you very much.

Maybe you haven't thought about this or you just believe what everyone on tuners says, but when you let off the throttle, your 02 goes lean. The engine goes into vacuum.

When you are doing a WOT pull and build over 4psi of boost, your ECU goes into a different timing and fuel map, and doesn't rely on the O2 sensor as heavily as it does in normal daily driving.

When your BOV valve vents, air is released, but not ALL the air is released. Just enough to prevent compressor surge.

I will admit, I vented my HKS BOV on the stock MAF. I noticed quicker spool up, and the same gas mileage. If you vent to atmosphere, the air coming into the throttle body will also be a bit colder.
