Default where would i install a tow hook?

has anyone installed a tow hook on their car? if so, where did you mount it? does anyone have any suggestions as to strong points around the front or rear bumpers where i could mount a tow hook? i'm thinking of it looking something like this:

    and mount like this..

    or something...

if anyone has any suggestions, i would greatly appreciate them.

I put that about on par with installing an "interfooler"

Tow hooks are for cars required by race regs to have them..

But if you must install one.. just LOOK for a place to put it.

The best thing to do would be cut a hole somewhere in your front/rear bumper, and bolt it to the crash guard. I can see these good for street cars that have been dumped beyond the legal limit. If your dumped car ever breaks down (ie you own a dsm), you just make the tow guy's life easier. So yeah, they are good for something on the streets.

thanks manny. my front bumper was scratched the last time i was towed, so yea, you pretty much hit the nail on the head, except my car isn't lowered.

has anyone else had any experience with these?

Why do you want it is what I meant. If it's for cosmetic purposes, I agree with Ben... but I'd probably put it in the side "scoop" on the bumper with some sort of extension to attach it inside. If it's for real use, I agree with Manny. Chop a hole in the bumper and attach it to the reenfoced points for the 5mph bumper. If it's for real life track use where your car might be towed off a track after exploding a drive train part, don't attach it to the 5mph itself. I'd think it would snap right off if a tranny blew and you had massive resistance while being towed by a pick up or tow truck. Then you'd have a snapped bumper support and big hole in your bumper cover to go with your problems.

True true.. and if you had your bumper messed up in the past i understand.. Personally i would just paint it black and not have it protrude 10 inches in front of the car.. But even tho most of those tow hooks are 1/4" plate.. You would have to really do some hunting to find a suitable mounting point.. You wont be able to use the fiberglass front crash bumper..

I will say that my old 2g was lowered rediculously (I could only stick the first 2 inches of the toe of my shoe under the front bumper) and i never had a problem with tow trucks.. It jsut took longer to get it up on the bed.. I.e. the driver actually used ramps.. Its more about the laziness or preparedness of the driver i think..

Also i used to keep a couple of scissor jacks with me just in case.. Id just pick up the front end with the scissors.. (Which i had to do anyways to roll a floor jack under the front end.. (It was stupid low.. Ill never go that low again)

thanks for the advice. yea, i was planning on getting a black one, the pics i posted were just some i happened to run across online. i put 2gb front/rear/side skirts on my 2ga and was a little pissed when i saw that my freshly painted front bumper got scratches on it (not from me), so naturally i looked into getting a tow hook. i'll be looking at possible mounting points after christmas when i have time. i'll be under the car anyway replacing the starter again (fcuk kragen starters).

can anyone else help point me in the right direction? jonathan? savo?

Use your front bumper suport holes to mount tow hook, but you might need to use longer bolts. If tow hook seats to high just make a spacer at same location and that shoud do it.
