Default Question for the few 4G64 guys.....

Real quick question for you 4G64 guys....

I'm starting to assembly my engine and everything is going good but I've run into a confusing part. I'm putting on all new gaskets and seals and rings on this thing when I ran into the Intake CAM Gear...yeah the funny lookin' one. I realized that the "ring/seal/thing" (sorry having a brain fart and cant think of the real term for it but its the ring/seal that goes on the gear where it meets the cam) is obviously larger than the exhaust ring. Now seeing that I picked up and full engine gasket kit I heard the only thing that would be different would be the head gasket. After looking (scratching my head making grunting noises and wanting to hit stuff with a hammer) at it, it looked like it doesn't even use one.

So what's the deal with it? do you not use one or do you get one from Mitsu?

Ok...i took some pics to clarify what I was talking about ....Hopefully you guys can help

The "goofy" cam gear I speak of is the DOHC 4g64 Intake Cam Gear...Shown below as the right Cam Gear

On the CAM gears (at least on 4g63 set-ups) they have a ring/seal (shown in the pic below) that goes on where the cam gear meets the camshaft.

the problem that I am running into it that on the Intake Cam Gear, where normally the ring/seal would sit on a standard 4g63 cam gear...There is a protruding peice of the gear itself that forms a ring. And unlike what I've heard (that you can use all gaskets and seals from a 4g63 engine gasket kit...except for the HG) appears that either you need a 4G64 DOHC intake SPECIFIC cam gear ring/seal or you dont use one at all. It looks like if you used a larger ring the it wouldn't be able to insert properly and sit in the head.

So the questions are...Do you use one? Do you use a specific 4g64 DOHC ring/seal? Or Am retarded and you use the standard 4g63 ring/seal and I'm just not putting it in right.

Thanks for your attention...now I'm going to wipe the brain matter from the screen.

    Ok well...NM

All I had to do was take off the shudder wheel on the cam gear. All is well....now onto the Oil Pan seal. The "Ol' Dirty" method...
