    Default SAFC-II Install on a 1G

Hey guys, I just picked up a slightly used SAFC-II from feebay, and it was missing the manuals of course.
Just wondering if anyone has done an install on a 1G and if there are any good write ups on it. I've already checked on vfaq, and the only writeup listed is one for a 2G from Prostreet that isn't there anymore.

Any help with this would be appreciated. I'm not very good with hard diagrams, or blueprints for that matter...
Anyhoo, if anyone can throw a dog a bone here, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks guys!

    I've done the SAFC2 install on my 1g. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/gvr4_afc_instructions.html

It's for the SAFC1 but all the wires are the same. It's pretty simple. Good luck.

Oh, and don't bother with the blue wire O2 sensor mod.

Thanks, I'm going to install it Saturday along with my new oil pan, and finally wire the power for my EGT properly as well.

Lots of work on this little bastard. Next thing I've got to do is figure out where I'm going to mount the AFC, and remount my turbo timer.

The guy I got the car from snipped all the wires from the SAFC2 that WAS in there long enough that it made it a 5 minute job.

The write up on VFaq did help in locating the last wire that we had to repair because the dick cut the ECU wire. Just so happened to be the MAF wire on the ECU.

Now I've just got to move my knock sensor to the correct location. Its a little low and is picking up sounds from the crankshaft.

It's not accurate. I've heard of many cases where the SAFC2 will be reading high numbers of knock while the datalogger is reading 0. The true knock reading has to pass through the SAFC2 first which can cause false readings, and then those reading would be sent to the ECU.

Youve heard incorrectly.. The SAFC just reads the raw data from the sensor.. you can then set a threshold at which it will show you knock... The ECU interprits the data coming from the sensor and assigns it a knock count.. The data the SAFC shows you is still useful if you understand what your looking at.. when you compare the raw sensor data value to the knocksum on a logger youll get an idea of where you should be ..

*edit.. Also the sensor data doesnt "pass through" the SAFC.. The SAFC is only t-ed off the sensor wire.. THe knock sensor remains directly connected to the ecu.. And since it is not a resistance type sensor your SAFC watching the signal isnt going to mess anything up..

It's different for 2Gs and 1Gs also. With the 1Gs, the raw knock to knock sum is more of an even scale and you can reference the raw knock value shown on the display and get an idea. On a 2G it's useless, the raw knock value was never figured out until DSMLink came along. Now there are more toys from FTS and others that can read 2G knock.
