    Default wheel wobble

recently, i've felt a little wobble in my front/driver-side wheel so i jacked the car up on that side to check it out. it seems that i can move the wheel left or right about one centimeter without the steering wheel moving. i'm thinking the problem could be in the rack and pinion. i checked the ball joints already and they look fine. has anyone run into this before?

If you grab the top and bottom of the wheel and give it a shake does it move? If so it would be wheel bearing..

Well if your knuckle is moving with the wheel and your tie rod ball joint is tight and the steering wheel is not moving the rack is all there is left to cause the problem.

Oh we don't sell to many racks

I think the auto repair software I saw says it takes about 8 hours of labor to change out the rack & pinion on a 2g GSX.

On my 1g awd it said it was gunna take 7 hours.

Keep in mind it also said it was gunna take 6 hours to change my clutch, and I changed it by myself in less then 2 hours with no air tools or lift.

Those repair manuals exaggerate a bit on the labor hours.
    BIG PLANS.....STAY TUNED.....

thanks for all the replies. i'm going to check the tie rod ball-joints and i'll post back. yea, it seemed odd that the rack might be going out since i havent found it on any vfaqs to be a common problem on dsms.

update: the problem ended up being the tie rod ball joint. easy fix, semi-expensive part though.
