Default SOB POS Tranny Fluid GRR?

    Hey guys,

I needed to get some new fluid for my transmission before I change out the seals tonight and I went to 2 Autozones and they both only had 2 bottles of Synchromesh (like a tard I didn't buy the 2 at the first one and then 1 at the other). Went over to Kragen cause the guy at Autozone said that should have some (hoping maybe I was wrong about them not carrying it) but they don't carry it so it was too late to go anywhere else so I just grabbed a bottle of some Valvoline 75W-90 High Performance gear oil.

Do you think it'd be ok to mix this with the 2 quarts of Synchromesh? I wanted to check to make sure it doesn't eat copper but I couldn't find any info about it on the bottle or the valvoline website. =(

I'm going to go out and start taking the seals out and hopefully someone will be on to respond when I come back to check, cause you guys are fast as hell.

    Thanks

The Gear oil is GL5.. you cant use it.. Screw synchromesh while your at it.. Go find Redline MT-90.. its around.. i can get it at a place called Global Auto Parts in Stockton.. Its everywhere..

you cant put GL5 in your tranny man...It will eat your synchros alive.. HIGHLY Corrosive.. not to mention bearing material.. the only thing you should use GL5 in is your rear end.. factory manual specifies gl4 for trans and tcase..

This is straight from the Vfaq.. Ive used BG synchroshift and Redline mt90.. I prefer redline.. My tranny shifts better on it..

DSM transmissions are very sensitive to lubricants, so the oil you use will have a direct effect on how the transmission shifts. Again, synthetics are superior to conventional oils. First, a GL-4 spec oil must be used in the transmission. Do not use a GL-5 spec oil or you will damage the synchros, the GL-5 additives are corrosive to the brass synchros. Three brands have been found to work best, Red Line MTL (or MT90, which fits DSM spec better), BG Synchroshift, and GM Synchromesh (not actually produced by General Motors). All have their followings. Some cars work better with one and some with another. It can be said with certainty that any of the 3 will improve shifting and transmission life dramatically over standard gear oil. This has been found at the factory too. If you suffer notching shifting and some gear grind, especially when cold, these products will help. If your transmission is notchy all the time and several gears grind, you may have to have synchros replaced or the transmission rebuilt. Depending on your car's age you may be eligible for repair at the dealer through some factory TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) which replace the synchros with updated parts for a nominal deductable.

(TS: Note: I personally run MT90 in the tranny and transfer case (so 3 quarts just about perfectly fill the tranny and transfer) and Redline 75W85 gear oil for the rear diff. Redline recommends a mix of MTL/MT90 for DSM trannies, I think straight MT90 works better in warmer climates. The colder the climate, the higher percentage of MTL you'll probably want. People in really cold climates seem to have best luck with straight MTL.)

Not sure why you or someone would say screw syncromesh. I have used it and know lots of people who do use it and enjoy it. I picked up the Pennzoil one from autozone. works very well.

    I use BG........cause I am a dealer :D

BG has a TON of other VERY good oils,
I use their HI-LOW syn engine oil also,
they also have a Engine purge fluid that works killer on noisy lifters.

We stock the BG Syncro Shift II at the shop everything else I can have in a day or so.
its a bit expensive but what is $30 every year or two??

Actually Ben, no need to drive to Stockton for it....I got some for my friends' 95 3000GT SL tranny a couple months back in Lodi. Street Rods Plus on Cherokee lane in Lodi. He sells it damn cheap too...$7 bucks a bottle. the 3KGT needed 5 of them. 3rd gear was notchy still with Pennzoil Synchromesh. We switched it over to Redline MT90 and now it shifts like a prison inmates wet dream. It had never shifted that good with any other fluid, not with Mobil 1 synthetic fluid, nor Pennzoil synchromesh....Redline MT90 fixed all those tranny issues. If the Redline didn't fix the notchyness, we were gunna try BG.....If that didn't work, then the tranny was gunna get rebuilt.

Some people just promote and exaggerate things too much. Just because Pennzoil Synchromesh has worked for a bunch of people, it doesn't mean mean it's unstopable or theres nothing better. I personally know 5 people that avoid Pennzoil Synchromesh like a drunk fat ugly chick, including 3 BMW mechanics. Next time I change out my tranny/t-case and diff. fluid, I'm buying Redline MT90.

Yeah I just mixed some BG I had left with the 2 bottles of synchromesh.

Good thing is, the side that was leaking isn't anymore.

Bad news is the other side started leaking.

I just got done changing the seal out on the other side...hope it works. Those things are not fun to change =(.

I might order the Redline MT90 stuff. I tried BG cause at first that was the big one, wasn't too impressed, so I tried the Synchromesh, and it hasn't been all that impressive either so I think I will try the other stuff.

Still can't get it to shift like it did when it had whatever it had in it when I bought it.

Although a great amount of brain power was put into these insulting posts, they will continue to be edited.
