Default 2 Way Pager Alarm + Install?

    Hey guys,

Well after my recent theft I've decided to get the alarm first (was checking them out online the night my stuff got stolen =(). I have installed one on an Eclipse before but it was a 95 GS. Are 97 GST's wired up significantly different then a 95 GS? I also remember that a few months after installing the alarm on the old car that the door locks started messing up, so I think they weren't wired up correctly or something. Anyone else had this problem?

I'm still undecided on which alarm to get also. I have my heart set on a 2way (one with silent alert so I can go out there and whip some ass) and the stuff from DEI and Compustar gets a lot of praise as far as I've seen. My friend also has an older Compustar 2way system and its never given him any problems. Anyone have anything they can recommend? I've also thought about the cost to benefit ratio of installing it myself as opposed to having someone else do it.

Any recommendations, suggestions, etc are well appriciated. =)

Did you cut the current-sensing wire on your old alarm? That usually a reason why your door-locks were giving you trouble, unless you half-assed the installation, didn't solder the wires, use heat shrink wrap, etc.....

Any brand name 2 way alarm will get the job done. DEI bought out Clifford. Prestige made some nice 2 way alarms. Some have longer range then others to alert you on the 2way remote.
If you can, and the option is available, get a better alarm antenna for better range. Most come with a flimsy, wire antenna that is just a regular, plain piece of wire.

I'd stay away from those flea-market looking shops that have everything stacked on the sales floor. They usually carry cheap alarms that they buy for $27 bucks a pop wholesale and rip you a new one when they sell it to you and install it.

If you want to go the cheap, cost effective way, buy it online and install it yourself if you feel man enough to do it.
    Its really easy to do.

Glad to see that you took a step forward in protecting your dsm....now all you need is a garage and you're set.

    Mmmm....jerk.

Thanks for the reply Lee. Does anyone know how the turbo timer feature on the Viper or Compustar models work? I was thinking of replacing my turbo timer but then got to thinking that its probably going to take some creative wiring to get it all to work together the correct way. If the built in ones do the job then I'd rather just keep it all in one integrated package.

I don't know for sure but I can pass on what the alarm place told me after I got a Viper installed on my Eclipse. They said all I'd need is a separate module from DEI that plugs into one of the accessory input/outputs on the alarm and it would arm the alarm after the turbo timer shut the ignition off. They said it would be another $100 installed. I'm sure someone out there has figured out a way around paying that $100 but I just haven't found it yet.

yo if you go to asian wolf.com they have some cool alarms, i have one on my car, the 8000 rs and it works great, it comes with a turbo timer feature so you can set it , i already have the apexi pen turbo timer, so all they had to do was make it be able to set when the key is out of the ignition, evene if the car is still running, install costing like 300 and the unit was like 200

I just bought this one online.. Generic as hell but tell me that a full color 2way remote isnt cool?

I also got a window module for it.. It comes with a built in turbo timer that you can set.. and it has a computer link so you can program your alarm via a PC or Pocket PC.. fairly neat.. Generic tho.. Ill let ya know how it goes..

Yeah I'm still debating on wheather to just install it myself or take it to someone who knows what they're doing.

Did you have any special resources that you used to install it, like something that told you exactly which wires to tap. On the12volt.com they have wiring schematics based on car but I don't know how much I trust it.

I used http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/ and some schematics off the Vfaq.. They were pretty close.. I have a 90 tho. so it was slightly different for me.. But i tested every lead before I tapped it. I work with electronics all the time tho as part of my job.. So if your not comfortable with a meter and wiring then dont bother.. nothing will tell you EXACTLY what to do step by step... Most stuff just gives you a good general idea where to look..
